I did an upgrade from Version 1.7.3 to 2.5 using the included update tool.

After the update the css files from my template seem to get overriden. My template is based on beez20 which I renamed both in templateDetails.xml and the folder itself. So I don't understand why Joomla does changes to it?

Also my admin interface looks a bit strange now. All components are displayed on the left. Is this the default behaviour?

Purged Joomla and browser cache and this issue has been solved. The one with the template still exists though.

Thanks a lot in advance for your help!

Clear the cache in Joomla!, exit, and then go back to see how things are.

Thanks imanickam for the first solution.

I could solve the other problem as well:
Joomla templates use relative paths beginning from the joomla root directory, not within the template folder itself. This makes it very hard to copy a template. You will need to change all paths from templates/old_template_name/xyz to templates/new_template_name/xyz

Additionally, beez20 uses a system template which will get updated during the update process. So you will need to copy that file and change the path before upgrading.

I also got an update error saying something like a duplicate column. Unfortunately this problem exists since 1.7.x and there has been no real solution yet (you will find many posts using google). I think it's because of the former migration tool (1.5 to 1.6/1.7) which screwed something up in regards of the database. The fix db function from Joomla 2.5 did the trick for me.
