Greetings all, I'm really struggling to try to get a 1.5.26 site migrated to 2.5. So far I've had no luck with either jUpgrade *or* SP Upgrade, but I'll stick to jUpgrade problems for this post....

I'm attempting this in a site copy in a MAMP test environment. jUpgrade seems to run but gets stuck in some sort of loop on "Migrating undefined". Forum posts have turned up a lot of this (viewtopic.php?f=625&t=729217) and I've tried several suggestions found here and on redComponent's forums to resolve. So far no good.

Have tried the following:
-- used Akeeba Admin Tools to "repair and optimize" the Joomla database
-- using older versions of Joomla 2.5 (2.5.4, 2.5.2)
-- disabling all plugins with Javascript libraries
-- disabling all components, modules, and plugins that are not core Joomla and are not in the supported 3rd party list
-- disabling all components, modules, and plugins that are not core Joomla
-- running jUpgrade to exclude 3rd-party extensions
-- running jUpgrade with wide open folder permissions

Same results every time. Ideas please? Even suggestions as to where I should look for problems would be appreciated. Thanks!

Not sure if this will help other folks, but figured I would post just in case it does....it seems I managed to figure out what was happening at least with *MY* problem.

TL;DR: Try running jUpgrade with logging turned on (check the outputs against http://wiki.redcomponent.com/index.php? ... leshooting), and with different "Core Skips" set to "Yes" and see if you can identify which element is causing jUpgrade to hang.

As jUpgrade kept hanging, I decided to give SP Upgrade a try for this site. It finally worked (after some gracious support from the developers!), but as it doesn't migrate some third-party extensions I need migrated, I still wanted to get jUpgrade working. Interestingly though, SP Upgrade's great error reporting threw lots of SQL errors around the banner import stage.

So I tried jUpgrade again, with all the same settings I used before except this time I set "Skip Banners" under "Core Skips" to "Yes".

JUpgrade ran like a charm. Still testing, but at this point everything is looking good. Of course my banners weren't imported, but recreating a few of those is a small price to pay for getting my JEvents and CommunityBuilder automatically migrated.

Hope this helps someone -- I've found this migration process to be frustrating and disappointing. Maybe I can ease others' pain ;-)

Forgot to mention....in my case it was fine to just not migrate the problem data. At the very least this method might show you where exactly any database problems might be so you can try to correct them.

So the problem data was only the banners? Have you tried this migration in a live environment? I noticed you did this on mamp, did you just have sample data installed? I'm trying to make this migration on a live site that has a lot of data so I'm trying to minimize data loss.

Thank you

This was a full replication of a live site, with live data (about 10k articles, 300 users, 100 section/categories) done in a MAMP testing environment. I have not yet done the migration on the live site because I'm still working through some third-party extension details.

In this case, the problem data was in the banner data. I was just trying to suggest a way to track down the cause of the dreaded [undefined][undefined] loop that jUpgrade sometimes gets into.

I'm not suggesting you *have* to ignore or throw out data -- it's just that in my case, it was easier to simply ignore the problem data than to get into the dirty details of why the banner data wasn't conforming to what jUpgrade (and SP Upgrade) were expecting. You could also look more carefully into repairing the data so that it does import correctly -- but either way you first have to *find* where the problem is :-)

Oh, I should also add that on other sites I have run jUpgrade with no problems. I'm not saying you *have* to lose data in order to perform an upgrade. It's just that *when* the upgrade process fails, it's tricky to discover why. I just wanted to provide another option for people who are struggling to find solutions.
