1.6 to 2.5 not possible !
It seems from here http://docs.joomla.org/Upgrading_from_1.6.4_or_earlier
that I cant get my 1.6.0 to the needed 1.6.5
from the 1.6.5 I understand I can get to 1.7
following instructions on the docs like the link above I have to go from the update mechanism but there is only an update for 2.5 versions which throws an error of course.
I can find no files for 1.6.0 to 1.6.5 to download so I cant do my preffered ftp over the files. I take it db updates are also required ?
thanks for help

Here is a blog post about the release of Joomla 1.6.5, it includes a link where you can download Joomla 1.6.5.
You should be able to use the 'Extension Manager' to upload the Joomla 1.6.5 zip file and then use the one click update there on.
Note: You may want to use the 'Discover' tab after installing the '.zip' file and installing any extensions that may be found.

You may want to un-pack the '.zip' file to your desktop and then use FTP to overlay the 1.6.5 files over your current 1.6.0 site.
Just be sure to take a backup first just in case something goes wrong.

Thats my normall approach if I know that the tables are not altered - so if thats the case I am happy to try that.

Not fully sure but there may be a 'Fix Database' button located at 'Extensions' -> 'Extension Manager' -> 'Database' and then the 'Fix' button in the top right corner.
Again, not sure if this feature was added in 1.6 or 1.7.

Re: 1.6 to 2.5 not possible !
I uploaded the extracted contents and it still shows as v1.6.0 thats strange and i seem to remember a long way back on another site this could be a typo, will try to see and imagine I am at 1.6.5 and take the next step..
NOTE LINKS ON WIKI BROKEN NOW - http://docs.joomla.org/Upgrading_and_Mi ... Joomla_1.6
they seemed to be ok before. - so not sure where to go from here I seem to still have 1.6.0 site and when i click to see upgrade options its just to 2.5.6 which isnt possible from 1.6.5

Re: 1.6 to 2.5 not possible !
Ok I took a chance and ran the 1.6.5 to 1.7.0 though it was only showing 1.6.0 after copy as above.
So I have a slightly broken 1.7 site now and consider my options. I tried to upgrade from 1.7 and get a file error so i just need to find the 1.7 to 2.5 package but i cant find it anywhere - or should I just try to do it like it was a full site - all files..

Re: 1.6 to 2.5 not possible !
You would need to get to the latest version of 1.7 which is 1.7.5 and then the Joomla 2.5 package should be listed under 'Extensions' -> 'Extension Manager' -> 'Update' (you may need to 'Purge' and then 'Find')
Joomla 1.7.0 to Joomla 1.7.5 update packages
http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla ... ge_id=6259
Currently I can't find a stand alone update package from 1.7.5 to 2.5.0 but hopefully the 'Update' tab should take care of that.
