Post by bidon88 » Wed Aug 06, 2014 1:40 pm

Please I would like to upgrade my joomla 1.5.26 to joomla 2.5. Please what do I need to do to ensure very little down time to my website. I want to ensure my website stays the same and ensure I don't loose my files.

Please can anyone assist me with a stepwise instruction on how I may carryout this transition successfully with my website still intact.

Upgrades can be quite complex and daunting, especially if you have many third party extensions. Those extensions will not work, and neither will your template so the task does not end with just a simple click. You may even need to purchase newly updated extensions, or may find that one of your beloved extensions is not available for J2.5.

All you will be upgrading are
- articles
- categories
- menus
- users
- banners
- weblinks

I suggest looking through the list of upgrade/migration tools at http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... -migration and read through some reviews and determine what will serve you best. The one called 'migrate me' seems to be highly rated and most simple (so he says), I am just wary of high pressure sales guys whose every 5th word is 'buy now' 'don't miss out' and 10 arrows pointing to the buy button

We use in our commercial operations the SP Upgrade extension http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... tion/15609 which is extremely solid and works like a charm. Goes flashy fast even with sites with databases of several hundreds of Mb's.

It is commercial indeed but value for the little bucks you need to spend. You just install an empty (no demo software) Joomla in a subdirectory, load here SP Upgrade , fill in the database details and ftp link to the 1.5 version and hit the migrate button. A few minutes later you are done

There are two ways.

First way:

1. Make a backup of Joomla 1.5 site backup and download it.
2. Setup 1.5 site on local machine.
3. Download Jupgrade component compatable with joomla 1.5 and install into 1.5 site.
4. Configure Jupgrade and start migration process.
5. It is nessary to have internet connected at the time of migration because this component downloads the joomla 2.5 setup
it creates the newsite folder into current site.

Second way:

1. Make a backup of Joomla 1.5 site backup and download it.
2. Setup 1.5 site on local machine.
3. Download spupgrade component compatable with joomla 2.5.
4. Download joomla 2.5 setup and install it on local workstation.
5. Install the spupgrade into joomla 2.5 site.
6. COnfigure the spupgrade & transfer click on transfer. Process completed & database imported into the joomla 2.5 site.
