When trying to log in to administrator page Error 107 (net::ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR): SSL protocol error. received using Google Chrome and blank white page with Explorer 9 and (Error code: ssl_error_rx_record_too_long) using Firefox. Not aware of anything that would have caused this as was on a refresh that it occupied this morning.

Log -in is redirecting to https:// rather than http://

Have checked configuration.php file and public $force_ssl = '0';

There is no SSL on server and the redirect to https:// only occurs when entering log in details on BOTH front and backend - not when going to the administration url

Ok what were you doing on the site immediately before the error started occurring as clearly you have had access to the site at some time or other judging by all the extensions that have been added.

I had just installed sh404SEF and the refreshed admin log in which had expired. I have spoken to anything digital and they say it is nothing to do with their extension. I have manually uninstalled the extension as best I can but can not get to the backend. I have removed all files and all reference in database. But error still there. I have also reinstalled a fresh copy of Joomla 2.5.7 and also tried a restore with Akeeba backup to just before the install but problem still reains.

Immediately prior to the extension I had upgraded to Joomla 2.5.7

Not ideal but problem has been solved by installing SSL which was needed for site anyway. Still no idea what caused the error though.

For those who have a similar issue to this ( SSL connection Errors )and wish not to purchase an SSL certificate.

The most common cause is if you are using K2 users login form and you enable "Encrypt Passwords" , this encrypts passwords through an SSL connection, which if you don't have, you will recieve an error.

SSL connect is basically ( Https://yourwebsite.com ,instead of Http://yourwebsite.com ,it's more secure and costs money yearly per site, price depends on your host's service )
