I cannot save articles after migration.

Post by Andsmith » Fri Oct 11, 2013 9:27 am

Hi, I would like to ask for your help. This site http://prevue.co.nz/ was migrated from SiteGround server. It worked perfectly there. After migration I can not save articles, modules after changes are made. This error message is thrown: 500 - An error has occurred. Connection to cache server failed ! Joomla! 2.5.14 is up. According to system info all directory is writable. Cache and administrator / cache directory permissions are set to 777. After the migration the htaccess.txt file had to be renamed to .htaccess. I tried rename it back to htaccess.txt but the same error message appeared.

Relevant PHP Settings

Safe Mode Off
Open basedir None

Magic Quotes Off
Register Globals Off
Output Buffering Off
Session Save Path None
Session Auto Start 0
XML Enabled Yes
Zlib Enabled Yes
Native ZIP Enabled Yes
Disabled Functions None
Mbstring Enabled Yes
Iconv Available Yes

There is another migrated 1.5 Joomla site on the same server but it works fine. Has anybody met with this problem? Please help.

Thank you

Hi,

To me, this is look like path to cache is not correct in your configuration.php

Please check configuration.php and see the setting are matching to the new server and its location of the directories.

Also are you running scripts as Fcgi or Apache?

Happy to help.

That is PLAIN WRONG!. You are never, ever allowed to set anything to '777'

Your folders should be '755' and your files should be '644' Change since will be hacked within no time with such permissions!!! This is like going to a shop and leaving the door from your house wide open and finding it than afterwards strange that your house is empty? If your server runs suPHP as Apache handler you get 500-errors with '777' since it does not allow for these settings!

Please install and post full output of the FPA

Hello Leo,

Thank you for your help. I totally agree with you. I tried dozens of things and suffer a lot with solving this problem. I know setting anything to '777' is stupid thing.

I'm experiencing this same problem. This is in the admin backend only. And it is very intermittent. Sometimes saving to the database from the backend works fine. Sometimes it crashes and displays the "500 - An error has occurred. Connection to cache server failed!" error.

I've checked error logs in the hosting cpanel and have not found anything. This problem just started out of the blue on 11/31/13.

Joomla (2.5.16) and all extensions are up to date. I've tried it with SEF URLs both on and off.

Here are my FPA results:

FYI, following up on the missing suhosin extension warning, I upgraded to PHP 5.4.22 with no effect. The problem persists.

Also following up on the Class 'JModuleHelper' not found warning, I found some discussion about this at Rockettheme. They claim this is a bug in the core Joomla software. I attempted to tweak the gantrymodulesrenderer.class.php file as suggested in a post at the rockkettheme forum, but it had no effect. The problem persists.

My site worked perfectly on siteground before transfer. Hosting company wasn't cooperative at all to help us. I got replies only after days. I was lucky because I could persuade owner to move to siteground and everything is perfect now. But still don't know what could have caused problem.

My site is on Siteground already now, but still having these problems.

Also, my site is not a migration. It started as a fresh 2.5 installation.

OK well first, if you search the forum for ""Connection to cache server failed!", then the forum crashes and gives a SQL error. See: http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f ... 5#p3112745

Second, I'm not sure what this captcha problem has to do with the backend crashing. Are you suggesting that the front end captcha problem is causing problems saving to the database from the backend?

FYI, renaming the recaptcha API server did fix the missing recaptcha problem (thank you), which was NOT previously even mentioned in this thread. But it did NOT fix the lost connection to the cache server problem in the backend.

Same issue, unfortunately this is the only thread I found via Google regarding this error message.

Me, too, I copied a site to a different server, coming from Siteground with Akeeba Backup/Kickstart. The 500 with message "Connection to cache server failed!" appears whenever I try to save anything in the backend.
What I tried was to switch off cache in configuration.php. Made no difference.

Here's my FPA output:

Got it!!!

I remembered that I had some special caching enabled on Siteground which required me to install a plugin:
jSGCache

After hard-disabling that plugin (renaming the plugin folder), everything works fine again.
