There are some tools and extensions that can help, e.g.:

http://cms 2 cms.com (remove spaces)
WordPress to JoomBlog Converter: http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... port/21946
CMigrator: http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... port/19583

I haven't used any of these so can't vouch for any in particular.

If there are benefits of switching from one to the other depends on the kind of site you have. If you have a blog, I think it will be better the stay with Wordpress. If you have a company website or something similar there may be benefits, but it depends on which functionality you really need...

If I follow your method, are you sure it will not give me a broken website or something. Because I am not that savvy in terms of websites, so don't want no trouble after.

If you are a total noob, I think you will find wordpress easier to grasp right away, and updates and adding plugins are much easier than Joomla.

I think Joomla is easier to organize if you have a complicated site with lots of articles and a complicated link structure. If you just need a 5-10 page corporate website, or are blogging for fun, Joomla may be overkill, and Wordpress would be simpler.

Your site will get hacked on Joomla, too, if you don't keep up with security updates, especially with 3rd party plugins. So if you don't understand how to keep your site secure, use as few 3rd party plugins (or components) as possible because that is where the majority of the security leaks are found. On either cms. Whichever one you use, sign up for the security updates newslist in their forum, (they both have one) and do your updates as soon as you learn about a potential issue.

Also be careful where you download free themes for either cms and only get them from the official template site for that cms or on the website of the template author if they are well known and have a reliable reputation. Hidden or encrypted files in free themes often give hackers a backdoor to get into your site.

If you decide to stay with wordpress, install the I-themes security plugin and hide your admin area. And don't just use the easy getting started menu, click the Settings link and enable all that stuff too to block most ways hackers get into wordpress.

Joomla has similar security plugins that are free and go a long ways in securing your site.

I've used http://cms 2 cms.com, too, migrating from joomla to wordpress, and also the other way wordpress to joomla, and I agree they are easy to use and not too expensive.

Hi,
I'm Gary new to this Joomla forum, i'm planning to convert from site from wordpress to Joomla platform. Can you please suggest your ideas on my queries.

Is Joomla SEO friendly like wordpress? If yes, then why it takes time to load?

Do Joomla have good plugins like wordpress? If yes, why people say Joomla plugins are not compatible with all scripts?

Also, do we have more free plugins for Joomla as like wordpress?

One important question - I'm an online marketer doing white label seo services to promote my clients business through organic search, i found Joomla based sites are little bit difficult to promote via online while compared to wordpress and drupal based sites. Is there any special reason behind this?

Please kindly answer my questions so i can take a decision soon.

Thanks,
Gary

Joomla is SEO friendly if you turn on search engine friendly URLs and install a SEO plugin. I use AceSEF. There are a couple other popular ones. Yoast and sh404SEF are a couple of them. If anything, Joomla has more free plugins than Wordpress. They call them Extensions on the main Joomla website. Extensions can be further broken down to components, modules, and plugins on Joomla, depending on what they do. I don't know the exact number but it's something like 16,000 of them. If you need it, someone has probably already made it.

You will find conflicts between some plugins on both cms. You just need to try them and see what works with your setup. If it breaks something, it's easy to uninstall the conflicting plugin, or if you contact the developer, sometimes they can resolve the conflict for you.

The speed of your site loading has a lot to do with the template you are using. The more plugins you use, the slower your site is likely to be. There are several extensions for both cms to help speed them up. if you do SEO you probably already know you need to use a responsive template so it works on mobile and tablets, as well as desktops. That means no fixed width templates.

There is a tool at https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/
that will help you see how well your template is doing and gives links to solutions to common speed problems.

There is differences between cms regarding security.

Its depend on how much effort the CMS builders have done to build and have focus on security and what cms model you adapt. Joomla have step up to be one of the most secure cms out there.

But you also need to have a good host otherwise it doesnt matter what kind of secure cms you have if your host is a bad about their knowledge.

SEF and SEO is not the same.

Even a good SEF structure improve SEO its a lot of other aspect that improve your SEO SERPs in search engines like Google. To do that you have to use a lot of continuously work to improve your SEO.

All plugins are compatible with Joomla but some plugins is only compatible with certain versions of Joomla. That could be that some plugins that were built for Joomla 2.5 doesnt work for Joomla 3.4.1 for example if they are not updated from the developer.

To load your site faster you can use some extra plugins that your download in JED or you can use caching etc from your hosting provider that have everything for you served like what I think is better example SiteGround https://www.siteground.com/joomla-hosting.htm#tab-3 you dont have any speed problem with Joomla.

There are some SEO optimisation components that you can use if you are serious about optimise your SERPs and there are some measures you can do to secure Joomla even more with an improved master .htaccess file for example.

You can also use editor like JCE editor to secure different user profiles http://stackideas.com/easysocial what they can do and also use the ACL to create secure accesses to your site depending on user groups and roles. Or have a super professional blogging system http://stackideas.com/blog/easyblog5-is-here

Here are some good links and tips of good recommended components your will find a lot more in Joomla extension directory (JED) free ones or a small amount to pay if they are more advanced
