Hi
I have a question about 'custom_data' and 'system_data' (text data types) columns in #__extensions table.
For what are they for? Can I use it for storing custom data?
Of course I mean my new own extension.

Hi,

The #__extensions table was introduced in j1.6 and absorbs the jos_components and jos_plugins tables of j1.5. Adds information about every installed extension type: components, modules, templates and plugins.

I wouldn't recommend storing data into joomla's core tables. If you wish to store data use your own component's tables.

I understand but I do not want to create a new table.
I'm working on my own extension. The Joomla! has created a new entry/row in #__extensions table form my extension 'com_mynewcoolsth'.
And I want to use 'custom_data' or 'system_data' columns only in this a new row.

Btw: I have greped joomla core files I did not find any sensible use of these columns.

that's great
this new column is a great convenience, for storing data in JSON format.
