Which group parent should I use?

Post by omriraday » Sun Apr 20, 2014 2:04 pm

Hi,

I'm new to this ACL thing and I probably didn't understand it right...

What I want to achieve is a menu items seen for different user groups.

I created a new test user group. Which parent group should I select?

Should it be under the registered user group or under the public user group?

One needs to login to the site before seeing the content.

Thank you!
Omri

The new user group can be under Public, or it can be under Registered. More importantly, after you have created a user group, for example "Group A", create a dedicated Viewing Access Level, for example "Level A" and grant "Group A" viewing access to that level.

Now you can set the Access option of a menu item to "Level A" and only members of "Group A" will see that menu item. Even super users will not see that menu item, unless you grant their group "Super Users" viewing access to "Level A", or add a super user as a member to "Group A".

While testing, remember that your test user needs to log out and log back in to the front end before new access rights are applied.
