I've taken the 1.5 version of the template and converted it to 2.5 using the article int he may issue of joomla mag.

I've even gotten most of it edited for how my client wants it to look

The problem we are running into is no mater how we set the blog featured articles settings (global or the menu item) it only displays the featured articles in list format not the blog layout we have set of 1 featured and 3 intro in 3 columns. I've also followed other direction I've found and made sure there are no <div> tags in any of my articles

It looks like you've converted Joomla's 1.5 default Rhuk Milkyway template to Joomla 2.5.

Could you test your website with a default Joomla 2.5 template? E.g. Beez 20
I hope that it works ok in Beez 20. If so, check the index.php of Beez & compare with your own template.

I included the .php file from the milkway theme im using. nothing really jumps out at me as they both list the component the same way

Code:
<jdoc:include type= "component" />

nothing else really talks about where components load that would effect the blog layout i wouldnt think.
