Official migration tool 1.5 to 2.5

I am a head o Czech user community. After announcement of availability 2.5 beta 1 some of ou users got nervous. There is no tool for migration from LTS (1.5) to LTS (2.5) available.

Also there is no official statement for this. Is possible to know the status of this "small" project?

From the beginning we recommend our users to stay with 1.5, no experiments with migration to 1.6/1.7 (as this process is sometimes really complicated and also there are no official tool for this).

Could somebody from the development create a clear statement covering this "issue"? In which time horizon we can expect some migration tool to test? I think this could be helpfull for many users still using latest version from 1.5.x. The main idea is that development team is not preparing anything and there will be just small note, that only supported migration is possible from 1.7 to 2.5...

Is there somebody who can answer our question?

A core solution was never created. Matias had already put a lot of work into jUpgrade by the time 1.6 was released as stable, and the development team decided to support that as the "official" migration tool.

It's available on the JED at http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... tion/11658

Thanks for an answer. This raised another set of questions :

- Do you think, that jUpgrade is the proper tool for migration? A lot of our users used this in history but a lot of concerns with the tool and the results of its functionality. A lot of issues and we can not say that migration is easy rather really complicated. We know as we migrated already our user portal from 1.5.x to 1.7.x.

- Is this the right support from the team? Is there any chance to rethink this strategy? Many users completely skipped migrating/upgrading excercise to STS versions, as there was a statement, that upgrading from 1.5 to next LTS (now 2.5) will be supported. As I know what our users are discussing it looks like the devlopment team completely missed users with J! 1.5 and stated "If you want to use our new LTS, create new site or migrate somehow."

- We are completely missing information about the migration process as it should be planned carefully and could take some time. There are just 3 months after releasing 2.5 to migrate from 1.5. Than there will be no support. It could be painfull process and looks like nobody takes care about this...

That is summarization of the discussion going on our local community site. I think that this kind of discussions will be there on each site when 2.5 goes final.

I join to Svatas. I would also like to have the official upgrade tool.
Few days ago I tried jUpgrade and it makes errors. It switches menu and not always keeps the ID.

What will be the next? Should we wait for the official migration tool or use the jUpgrade?

It would be good to do something like that (oficial upgrade tool) because people who waited for LTS version
will be probably very dissapointed now. I am not the only one who has problems with jUpgrade, just go through the forums or go through review jUpgrade on Joomla extensions http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... I7fQ%3D%3D

Hello,
I was waiting for version 1.5 because of that, the official migration tool. Now that our pages are large and have lots of articles, categories, and various components is not easy přemigrovat a newer version. And therefore I hope that will fulfill his word, and create a migration tool. Since I tried the beta version of our site migration of jupgrade and it turned out several chybama and was not working either version 1.5 or 7.1 Thanks so much and I hope that the migration from 1.5 to 2.5 will be a breeze.
Have a wonderful and happy new year 2012
