What's up search on these forums lately? I get this message quite frequently lately. Happens when I first login and try to click on "View unanswered posts" or "View your posts", even at beginning on the morning when I haven't been on the forums at all for several hours.

Edit: All the shortcut "View" links are giving that. It's like search thinks I've used it within whatever the time limit is set to in order to avoid too many sql requests? What is the time limit, but whatever it is I think there's something not quite working with it. This happens on my home pc, my laptop, and my ipad, so it's not computer specific either.

Hi,

Yes the server switches off the search when it is too busy. We are currently working on a solution to solve this problem.

Unfortunately this might take some time.

Thanks for your patience,
Olaf

Hi Olaf,

Is this something to do with the spam/bot issue? If so PM me, I have a solution for you having just coded captcha checking on my PHPBB board for users with a postcount < 5. It has stopped the spambots completely. It's for PHPBB2, but I have the same for PHBB3 pretty much done as well. In fact PHPBB3 was much much easier with a 1 line change in posting.php since there's captcha coding already there for guest users.

Hi,

Only part of the problem is spam. Most of the spam in the forum is manual spam, we have other methods in place to stop at least a good few of the spam bots.

Olaf

I understand that the inability to search the forum is a known issue.
Please do what you can to elevate the urgency of this problem, ans the solution to it.

The Joomla forum is ALMOST UNUSEABLE without a Search feature.

Very serious issue, nearly crippling to those of us that use Joomla but are not 100% expert.

What's it going to take, money, time, help, what?

Regards,
Kent

Hi,

I am sorry you have this issue.
However, you still have the opportunity to use the google Search option, at the top of the Forum.

Olaf,
Thanks for this tip, it sounds like this Google search feature will indeed serve this need until the forum's native search capability is fixed.

Regards,
Kent

It seems it's gotten better over the last few days. The native search is more flexible, as far as finding your own topics as well as new posts/etc. I probably use the "View Unanswered Posts" button the most as whenever I have a some free time I will always use that to find any unanswered posts that I may be able to help out with... :)

Olaf,

I'm sure you've seen this, but just in case... Check out this phpbb3 ext. I installed on my phpbb3 board and it has stopped all the bots from signing up very nicely. At least 100s a day using RBL lists...

Advanced Block MOD (V1.1.1)
