Improve forum readability

Post by jk1 » Tue May 03, 2016 11:23 am

After the forum update I would suggest to change the font size a little bit in order to improve readability. In my Firefox browser forum posts are much easier to read if the font size would be set to 12px instead of 13px.

...cdn.joomla.org/template/css/v3_template.min.css?v1.3.3

body {
background-color: #fff;
color: #333;
font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;
font-size: 13px;
line-height: 18px;
margin: 0;
}

Also, I would change the blue body text background color to a lighter color for better contrast and remove the color gradients behind the body text completely.

What element is using the base font size from the global joomla.org template here? Or is it just a global thing? I agree there's a lot that looks "huge" on the current setup (like post contents which have a 1.3em font-size, even 1.1em is massively better (which looks close-ish to 14px?). To me 12px seems somewhat small and hard to read, but everyone's going to have an opinion on that.

FWIW, changing the base global template's CSS probably isn't happening as it affects almost every site on the joomla.org network. The forum definitely can keep improving its implementation of the template though.

Just testing if adding attachments works. Before/after screenshots didn't upload with my first attempt.

Thanks, I have reduced the font size to 1.1em and increased the contrast.

Kind regards

Definite improvement. I don't feel like the text is jumping off my screen getting ready to attack me now ;-)

Hi there,

Please change the color for :visited links, at the time is hard to know the difference
between two states, please see the screenshot:

Cheers.

Hi

I had a look at it, but I don't think the :visited rule should change. The forum is tracking if you have new items in a topic and this is shown in the icons. (have a look at the colour of the icon)

We might have a look at a different icons in the future.

Kind regards
Olaf
