Re: Discuss about JTS-post Assistant

Post by RussW » Sun Nov 29, 2009 12:41 am

Hey All,

OK, I have spent the last coue of days updating JTS-post to include;

1) J! 1.5.15 fixes, thanks all.
2) Option to not include "Sensative" information.
3) Option to run Component, Module, Plugin/Mambot Audits (but not dumped in to the forum post, way too much information for this tool)
4) Option to temporarily increase Execution Time and Memory, if JTS-post errors during Audits.
5) Slightly different layout.
6) Tested with J! 1.0.15, J! 1.5.15 and J! 1.6.0-Alpha2
JTS-post-110Beta.jpg
Let me know if you have any issues, or problems with this release, before I add it to the JoomlaCode Project Site.

Thanks everyone for your efforts and support of this tool.

Thanks JM

In general, does the tool "work" though? Nothing more serious than notices?

I m guessing the notices are about "undefined variables" I have added quite a bit and maybe not defined all the new stuff correctly yet.

The file will not search or locate your Joomla install, so you must put it in the correct place.

You have to put the jtspost file in the root directory of where you have installed Joomla.

If you installed Joomla in a sub-directory then you have to put the file there in the sub directory.

If you installed in the root directory of your domain (public_html you have to put the file there.

You can not put the file in any directory in Joomla. It must be at the root level.

Once the file is in the correct place that error will go away.

I'm working locally:

C:\xampp\htdocs\mysite\

I have tried everywhere, but either I get a blank page, the error above or address not found.

Hey there

just to cover the basics again;

Which version of Joomla! do you have installed? and where is it installed?

You say that you have a local instance of XAMPP here "C:\xampp\htdocs\mysite\"
So is Joomla! installed in that directory?

The JTS-post file needs to be placed in the Joomla! "/" (root) directory, so in your case you should see files like;
C:\xampp\htdocs\mysite\index.php
C:\xampp\htdocs\mysite\configuration.php
C:\xampp\htdocs\mysite\CHANGELOG.php
- etc

in the same directory that you place the JTS-post file in.

That's exactly what I see, but there's no way of making it work, I just see a blank page, no error message or anything, just a blank page.

I'm using the last version of Joomla!

I may just add that I get this error message in my index.php file, could interfere with the app?

<?php
if (!empty($_SERVER['HTTPS']) && ('on' == $_SERVER['HTTPS'])) {
$uri = 'https://';
} else {
$uri = 'http://';
}
$uri .= $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'];
header('Location: '.$uri.'/xampp/');
exit;
?>
Something is wrong with the XAMPP installation :-(

Although that isn't exactly an "Error Message" I am guessing that you are seeing that as "text" on your browser window. Correct? If so, then yes, I would be assuming that XAMMP has not installed / started / configured correctly to be running PHP, which is also a good chance why JTS-post is running correctly for you either.

That message I can see if I open the index.php file in htdocs, not in my browser. But anyway, I knew I couldn't make this extension work even before downloading it, too complicated.

As far as I was aware, the version posted a few posts ago should be fine with 1.0.x, 1.5.x and 1.6.x now...

I haven't had any other comments to the contrary, but with the joliday season upon us, many folks may not have tested it. <shrug>

First Great Job Russ! I have not found any errors in testing.

I do have a few suggested user experience improvements:

Perhaps the text line for Actions Taken to Resolve: Should be changed to a textarea? I can see where it is confusing when trying to enter something like the following:

I have taken the following actions:
1 unpublished a vulnerable extension
2 uploaded and extracted the core files
3 replaced template

Above currently needs to be typed all on one line, for normal people what would be expected would be a textarea they can type in.

Since focus is on the Generate Forum Post button, Trying to hit enter for a new line in Actions Taken/error1,2 generates a post and erases what was already typed in. Maybe change focus when cursor is in the error message/problem description boxes can be on that box area so return can work in a textarea?

Noticed the reset button does not look active, and cursor turns into arrow with a ?. Cursor should turn into hand to show it is active.

Add a Copy Code button that can copy the code to the clipboard for pasting in a post topic. While it is obvious what I should do with the code, I'm not sure a noob would know. They are already frustrated enough with their site being hacked.

@Both;

thanks for the feedback and testing, much apreciated.

Will take a little while before I can get on this again, but I agree with the useability items. I changed the "Actions" from a textarea to a textbox ti try and reduce space and completely forgot about that point, well caught sir..!

Will post again, once I have had time to work on it again, keep the problem reports or comments coming.

Oh, BTW, I have tested it briefly with 1.6, but I am sure there are a few things that have changed in the "configuration" methods that will probably need updating purely for 1.6 later.

Hi Russ,

Works nicely on 1.5.15. Good work :)

Tested using PHP 5.2.x with no issues. Then tried PHP 5.3 just to check the post assistant would be ready for 5.3 as 1.5.15 is, and this returned a handful of 'Deprecated' notices for the eregi when having the com/mod/plug output activated.
Looks like replacing eregi with preg_match a few places can make it play nicely at PHP 5.3 too.

Will throw a mail in your direction.

I have seen complaints recently in the security forum (here is one that is typical http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?p ... 0#p1931330 ) that people are getting totally blank screens when they try to run the forum post tool current version jts-post-en-10.php and have 1.5.xx (15 I think) version of Joomla. I have not been able to duplicate this. Could it be from the setting of the servers default php error report level? The tool generates some error and thus the error is not displayed? Nothing at all is rendered on the page when this happens. Perhaps someone (Russ?) can take a closer look at this and figure out why it happens?

OK folks

give this one a try....
jts-post.php.zip
Included Updates:
 • removed the enforced error_reporting ('E_ALL') in case this is what is causing some of the odd "white-screens" some users are seeing <shrug>
 • updated the output to only display RG_EMULATION if J! 1.0 detected
 • re-introduced the "Actions Taken" entry to a textarea (from an input type of text) to allow multi-line input (Thanks Phil)
 • re-formatted the output to put each individual output in to it's own "quote' box, with the quote title being the output section name. (hope you like it?)
 • changed the colour of the "reset" button so it doesn't look disabled (Thanks again Phil)
 • replaced the "eregi's" with "preg_match" for PHP 5.3 compatibility NOT actually tested on 5.3 though, but worked fine on 4.something and 5.2) (thanks Oli)
 • searched furiously for the stale mince-pies

What I Haven't Done Yet:
 • Output textarea, still only auto-selects, I couldn't get a cross-browser script to work consistantly, still working on it.
 • fully re-tested on PHP 5.3 or J! 1.0
 • found the stale mince-pies yet

Here's the new layout;
Still waiting for the promised stale mince pies, so decided to try and fix the JTS-post issues...

No mince pies observed in pantry...

No mince pies observed in fridge either...

1. Opened and closed the pantry door several times...
2. opened and closed the fridge door several more times...
3. Looked behind the mouldy cheese, just incase they were hiding...
4. Found last weeks Roast Pork, threw it out incase it was scaring the mince-pies away...
5. Took the dog for a walk and swim at the beach to give the pies a change to sneak in un-noticed... (No such luck)
6. Finally found a work-around, the fruit-salad was begging to be eaten and was healthier...
Hi Russ!

tried it and put in "http://www.mydomain.com/jtspost.php" got this (only slightly better than the blank screen I get with jtspost_en.php.v101F):
Error 500 - Internal server error

An internal server error has occured!
Please try again later.
I am using:
Joomla - 1.5.15-stablesetup
am placing "jtspost_en.php" and also tried the above posted "jtspost_en.php" file in the same directory of my joomla install alongside the files as seen attached.

how should the ftp permissions for my files be set up? is this causing the prob? I tried with default permissions, then I tried setting permissions for both php files as "777" but they both give same error - one leaves me a blank page, the other gives the 500 code error.

****EDIT****
:-[ tried the one here:
http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?p ... 5#p1983485
and IT WORKED!!! Thank you!
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

jts-post.php.zip [10.63 KiB]

I just downloaded this one from the post above and the link works fine.

The correct url for the above file would be "http://www.mydomain.com/jts-post.php

There is nothing really special in the file. Just html and standard php. It uses Joomla calls to find Joomla information and uses standard php calls to find some server information and php information. So I'm not understanding why it is not working for you.

Are you sure the file is not being corrupted by your ftp program when you upload it? You should be able to view it in your hosts file manager or download the file and view in notepad++

The files should be set to 644 and directories set to 755, anything higher than this results in an 500 server error. Hense the blank page or the 500 error you get.

Can you post the output of phpinfo.php? Maybe someone can spot an issue.

Code: Select all

<?php phpinfo(); ?>
(create text file named phpinfo.php using a plain text editor with the above line in it and upload to your public_html directory, then call it from your browser "http://www.mydomain.com/phpinfo.php".
