After seeing the recent flurry of posts in the Security forum of inexperienced users begging for help about being hacked, I thought of the idea of adding a new message on the home page. Please see the attached graphics.

I think most of the developers and more experienced Joomla users agree, that learning how to maintain a secure site and keeping Joomla updated is the responsibility of the end user. Joomla provides plenty of information on the subject, but I wonder if a new kind & gentle message on the front page might help the issue. As you might imagine, there are a lot of people who don't care at all about security until they are hacked. I myself don't feel sorry for these people, but they can falsely spread misinformation that "Joomla gets hacked all the time". Furthermore, the real victims are many times not them but their clients.

The graphic is just an idea. Feel free to use it if you like or make a variation based on your specs. Or let me know and I can make the changes. I imaging that you would link to the security checklist wiki page. Perhaps the page should elaborate more on how easy it is to upgrade Joomla. I think many users still don't realize that an upgrade doesn't ruin their template or extensions.

It's like a good idea to me.
