Very much agreed, only we need to migrate to PHPBB 3.1 first before doing that. Then find if there are plugins we need/want. Then it would be a good idea to create some plugins with specific features in it we'd like to have.

For starters, a basic Project Honey Pot script should be fine. It's still weird how this forum doesn't use Joomla with one of its native forum extensions.

When the forum migrated to PHPBB, there was no viable Joomla forum which could handle the load and had the features we needed. Don't know if there is one today which can.

It must be possible to stop spammers. The bots during last 12 hours should have been stopped before the flood began.

I am sure there are MODs like this one that could be used to keep the forums clean:

Adding newly registered users into their own group and their posts to the moderation queue should work just fine.
