Sorry to hear the history from 2004 & 5 being misrepresented so badly. Five minutes spent checking with any of the people involved at the time would have prevented a complete revision of history. Not as if its is so long ago that no records exist and/or it is beyond living memory.

There was no contest for the name
OSM came before Joomla - thats why
We spent a lot of time when founding discussing governance models especially as that was the main reason for the fork
The fork was nothing to do with closed source see http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?t=72
