Joomla Beginner + GoDaddy Can't add new menu items
I manually installed Joomla onto GoDaddy. My website is up and semi-operational. However I can not add new menu items. I receive a 500 error code: Internal Server Error
Strangely I can add new articles, new users and new menus. I can copy Save as Copy a current menu item and alter it. I tried to install JCK Manager and received the same error code. But yet the JCK Panel is showing up. If I run a system check on it I get the same 500 code. I can't change my editor to JCK.
I have reviewed the posts here and have tried most of the suggestions the .htaccess, the web config, changing my permissions on all the files. My account uses Microsoft IIS/8.0 running under Parallels Plesk, php 4.2.5
I really have no idea what is wrong and how to correct it. Thanks.

Re: Joomla Beginner + GoDaddy Can't add new menu items
99% of the time people don't take the correct steps in Joomla. In your case, how exactly are you trying to create a new menu item?
To create a new Menu item, the steps are as follows:
1) Create an article and save it. to create an article, go to:
Content >> Article Manager >> Add New Article
2) Give a title and save it even if it contains nothing (Save & Close button).
3) Now go to Menus >> Main Menu >> Add New Menu Item
4) Click on Select (as shown in the picture attached) and choose Articles >> Single Article
5) Give the Menu title;
6) Save (Press the green button)
7) View your site by refreshing the page if the site is already open.

Re: Joomla Beginner + GoDaddy Can't add new menu items
I don't believe that is my issue.
This is how I try to add a new menu item:
http://docs.joomla.org/Help33:Menus_Men ... nager_Edit
I receive the server error after I do Step 3 on your list. The page with Menu Title never comes up
The issue is possibly in the configuration of my database? I believe someone who can read the error log I posted will have a better idea.

Re: Joomla Beginner + GoDaddy Can't add new menu items
After messing with the settings repeatedly and removing and reinstalling Joomla both manually and via the GoDaddy interface I determined one of the issues has to do with Version 3.3.3. If I use version 3.3.1 and not update to 3.3.3 I can add menu items and extensions.
I do throw the following warning when adding a new menu item however:
<i>Warning: is_file(): open_basedir restriction in effect. File(\metadata.xml) is not within the allowed path(s): (G:/PleskVhosts//bchurch.org\;C:\Windows\Temp\) in G:\PleskVhosts\bchurch.org\httpdocs\administrator\components\com_menus\models\item.php on line 951</i>
Again, I have no idea what this means or how to fix it. Hopefully it isn't important to operation of my site.

Re: Joomla Beginner + GoDaddy Can't add new menu items
Thank you clem-14.
I had a version of my website running under WAMP on localhost with PHP 5.5, Joomla 3.3 and worked great. When I installed on Godaddy which only supports PHP 5.4, I had the issue with the new menu - each time I tried to add it crashed with "Internal Server Error 500". It is a generic error, so was impossible to track.
I went to PHP settings (at godaddy) as suggested and woola everything is fine.
Thanks!

Re: Joomla Beginner + GoDaddy Can't add new menu items
I was experiencing this same issue after an update to 3.6. Changed the openbase_dir to none and it is now fixed. Thanks so much clem-14 I had been searching for 24 hours before I found this post.
