I just watched your site load in Firebug's Net tab. I suggest you do the same.

There is something that is switching protocols that is taking a lot of time. I don't know what this is, but I don't know if Gzip compression will have any effect with this process.

You might also try using Joomla's caching settings in Global Config. There is a system cache plug in as well.

You have a number of images that need to load for the slideshow. They are a decent size <100KB and seem to be loading after the main content, which is good, but there are a LOT of images.

I would make one suggestion, for appearances, not speed, I would make the blue of the headings match the blue of the header area (#094E6A), that bright blue (#0000FF) you have now for the headings is a bit much.

Do you have a Menu Item for the http://jrledsign.com/index.php/2-uncate ... ome-to-led? How is it being created?

They appear to both be attached to the same article. If the Home page menu item is a single article and the other article is a Category Blog or List, then you can have the same content on more than one page.
