OpenId Authentication Plugin in Joomla 3.x
Hai,
My client ask for the use of 'OpenId ' for authentication. But Its not available in Joomla 3.x. These days, we see a lot of cloud services, apps, web apps relying on OpenID connect with oAuth 2.0 protocol to manage authentication and secure access
Why joomla 3.x avoid the 'OpenId Authentication' system ? ... can you help me some more details about this openid, is it more secure than any thing ?
Can we say the 'Authentication - Gmail' , is same behavior of this 'OpenId ' authentication ?
I am working with Joomla 3.4.1.
As far I am using the default template.
Thanks in advance,
ManuB

Re: OpenId Authentication Plugin in Joomla 3.x
Joomla 1.5 was the last version of Joomla to use OpenID as an authentication system. If you want to use OpenID for authentication on 3.x (or 2.5.x), then you will need to install an extension to do that for you (the JED has quite a few).
As to why it was removed, I couldn't find a single official resources that states why (if anyone knows of one, then please share).

Re: OpenId Authentication Plugin in Joomla 3.x
I have looked for OpenID plugins in the Extension Directory, but none work at the moment, it seems.
TJ-uLogin - won't install due to missing XML file. Web site is in Russian!
hs_users - installs, but the setup runs a message with a redirect link.
External Login only has a CAS plugin, no OpenID plugin
HybridAuth is no longer available.
So, so far, it looks as though OpenID authentication is not a live option for Joomla 3.x.

Re: OpenId Authentication Plugin in Joomla 3.x
+1
even if that is not native anymore, at least there should have in 2016 some reliable and working extension that allows joomla to support communication with external identity providers.
Protocols like openid connect or SAML tend to become de facto standard and usual best practices for companies that want to manage seriously user identities and application accesses: joomla would make a great mistake if ignoring this reality.
Nothing new on this area ?
