Xampp and Joomla 3.3

Hi!
I've been trying to install Xampp with joomla. After installing Xampp and advancing to joomla install, appears a message, saying that I should change user permissions to install joomla on the xampp directory. How can I do this?

How can I become superuser of xampp to install joomla?

You don't need to be a super user of XAMPP - that should be running by default.

The "super user" refers to the default user created in Joomla itself and that which you log-in with when you have a successful installation.

I'm not sure what permissions error(s) you refer to - perhaps you mean the PHP requirements "recommended" aren't quite matching the "actual" settings on your system? You'd need to change whatever it 'recommends' in the php.ini file.

I'm having a problem installing a new version of Joomla 3.3.x in Xampp.

All the files are installed but it hangs about 1/3 way through updating the databases.
I have tried both with and without Sample Data with similar results.

I can install a current version of my site, which is on 3.3.3 with no problems.

Had to completely re-install my PC with W 8 and 8.1 so it's a new install of Xampp.

Prior to the re-install, I've had no problems with Xampp.

Any idea as to the problem?
Do I need to update a PHP file?

Have now installed on a sub-directory on my website.
Installed Akeeba, backed up the site and installed it within Xampp with no problem.

Ha anyone any idea why I can't install it directly within Xampp?
