Unable to use menus
I've recently signed up with Crazy Domains and have them hosting my website also.
I've used Joomla! in the past so wanted to continue using it and installed version 3.3.0
However, I am unable to do anything as the menus don't operate.
That is, the top menu, System, Users, Menu, Content, etc, all work fine. It's the one under it where you have Save, Save & Close, Close, etc, that don't work - therefore I can't do anything.
Or when I try to upload something, the Install button doesn't work.
For example, I can get into the articles, edit, but can't save or close them.
When I make selections and then try to click on Delete, it says nothing is selected
This is the same when clicking on Edit too - I just can't use that menu bar.
Here's what I meant by unable to install anything also:
So even the basic functions don't work.
I've used Firefox, Waterfox, Chrome, and Internet Explorer - nothing works.
I use Windows 8.1 Professional, Windows Firewall, Avast Anti-Virus, Spybot - Search & Destroy, and Spyware Blaster.
The browser settings are pretty much on default, I haven't really changed anything.
I contacted Crazy Domains and they tested it on Firefox and worked without problems.
So what's going on on my end that's preventing me from using it?

Re: Unable to use menus
Clear both Joomla's cache and your browser's cache.

Hi dhuelsmann,
I've tried clearing my cache in Firefox, Waterfox, and Chrome.
Logged in, don't see any cache in Joomla!. Tried using the menu again, still the same - no improvement.

Re: Unable to use menus
Hi Dave,
Problem is, there's nothing in the cache to clear:
Also, Purge doesn't work because the button Purge Expired doesn't work.
I tried using my mother's computer, Joomla isn't working on that either. My host however says that all of their computers seem to work fine.
Do I need Java? I believe I have it installed - will double check.
Is there a Windows feature that's meant to be installed, that by default on Windows 8.1 isn't installed?
I'm at a lost as my computer is pretty much like any other computer, shouldn't be missing anything.
I used to have Windows 7 Ultimate and Joomla! 2.5.10 (or whatever it was) ran perfectly. I tried installing that version again, still the same problem.
Is it a Windows 8 thing?

Re: Unable to use menus
have you checked with your host that all the technical requirements for Joomla 3 are met on their servers?

Hi Jenn, thank you for the link - I'll confirm with my host if they do or not.

Update - Host meets all requirements.
So it could be my computer but I don't know what it could be. :S

Re: Unable to use menus
You may have a corrupted install. Download the full install package from http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla ... ge_id=6883 preferably download the tar.gz package because many of the hosts allow that package when unpacked to overwrite existing files as opposed to the zip package which doesn't. Upload the package using your CPANEL's file manager tool to the joomla root, then unpack it using file manager as well. Remove the installation directory and see if your site now works.

Re: Unable to use menus
Thank you for the link Dave - I'll keep the link bookmarked for now.
I believe I may have found the problem - my internet provider, Telstra.
Using my mobile network (Virgin Mobile), and my brother's university network, the Joomla! control panel worked fine.
So the question would be, if it was a corrupted install for example, would this resolve the issue? But then again, working on other networks, I don't see how it's the case, unless it's just how it works.
Or is Telstra stopping the use of Joomla! for some reason? Or just doesn't support it? Or just not up to date on their systems?
I'm going to contact them and find out - if nothing works out, I'll try a full package install.

Re: Unable to use menus
Well, Telstra says it's a problem that I have, nothing on their side - still doesn't explain why using a different internet service works and not theirs. So they want me to pay $100 to get it fixed, if the technician fixes it. >_>
Anyways, I've tried uploading the package but I get this error:
I re-installed the package from the host, clean install, everything works. Uploaded the tar.gz, extracted it, it overwrites the other files, and when trying to go the link, I get the error above.

Re: Unable to use menus
When it comes to hosting Joomla and similar, there are definitely some web hosting companies that are best avoided!
It looks like you are running fine now under Hostgator.
