Can't change password

I have just upgraded to joomla 3.1.5. I've moved from a temp directory to the root directory. I'm using the included, recommended .htaccess file.

I can log in to admin, but when I try to change my password, it doesn't work. I use Quick Icons -> Edit Profile. I put in the new password and confirm password. I press "save and close" button. I get a message that the changes were saved. Then I log out and the new password doesn't work, but the old one does work.

I'm missing something stupid here, but don't know what it is. Any ideas?

What is your Joomla version before upgraded to 3.1.5?

I didn't do the upgrade myself, so don't know any details about how it was accomplished.

However, if there is a database upgrade that might have been missed, I can get it done. Is there some trick involved with the upgrade process?
