upgrade/reinstall

Post by Gregor3000new » Sun Apr 06, 2014 11:01 am

I have a really old version of joomla for a static webpage. the "upgrade" procedure is rather complicated and given the fact that there are only a few websites it might be a waste of time. so what i was thinking is to simply reinstall joomla and copy paste the text from the few websites there are.

problem is i have the main site in /public_html with main domain.com

but i also have a webshop in public_html/shop wioth domain.com/shop

and another website in public_html/wp with different domain_2.com

what i am worried is that if i reinstalled over the old joomla i might overwrite certain setting in subdirectory or mess up my other install. is that possible? what would be the safest way to do this?

the joomla data is only a couple 4 or 5 webpages with some text and a pic or two. nothing big that i can't easilly remake with some copy paste. the two pics are backed up anyway.

Advice to install in an empty folder and when satisfied everything is as desired swap the folders and change configuration.php.
Issue with migrating? Include logs/joomla_update.php in your report!
Blank screen? Verify pagesource for HTML code (javascript error)
Installation failing on populating database? Install with set_time_limit(0)
Document your customizations!
