subdirectory installation

Post by aeonabyss » Mon Mar 16, 2015 5:58 pm

Howdy.

So,
https://docs.joomla.org/Moving_the_site ... irectories
shows you how to move a joomla installation from a subdirectory to the main directory.

I want to know how to go the other direction.

I have reverse engineered the steps depicted here, but it's still not working.
I'm assuming it has to do with the .htaccess that needs to be in the public_html main folder, so it knows where to redirect traffic.

I originally tried having a redirect from http://www.url.com to the installation folder, but it would show up as http://www.url.com/foldername.

My goal is to just have multiple joomla installations in individual folders in public_html, and one of said folders to be the installation for the base url website.

Thanks in advance!

The Joomla! install (files and folders) for the primary domain associated with the hosting account go in public_html. By default, your primary domain, e.g. `http://www.primary.com` will point to this location.

For subsequent J! installs, create folders within public_html for each site and then using your hosting control panel (e.g. cPanel <a brand name>) to create an Addon Domain for each domain that points to the respective folder.

This is not possible as such with core Joomla. You might want to check out Virtual Domains http://extensions.joomla.org/extension/virtual-domains

@leolam Think you misunderstood. No problem to have each subdomain to point to its own Joomla installation in its private subfolder. Shouldn't be a problem to direct the domain to a subfolder.

The extension VD allows multiple domains to be managed by one Joomla installation.
