Two sites in the same domain

Hello everyone,
I have a site that I would like to renew .... how can I not send offline the current site until the completion of the new site? What do you recommend?

One solution would be to do a fresh install of Joomla in a subfolder .... but then transfer everything could be complex?

There are alternative solutions?

Just copy using AK (Akeebabackup with kickstart) to the sub-directory

Suggest to request from your provider to switch DocumentRoot instead of moving the site. Verify in your control panel of your provider whether you can configure domains. When it allows setting the DocumentRoot, you can do it yourself.
Issue with migrating? Include logs/joomla_update.php in your report!
Blank screen? Verify pagesource for HTML code (javascript error)
Installation failing on populating database? Install with set_time_limit(0)
Document your customizations!
