Module Manager formatting/layout issue when viewing a module

Post by jeffbetts » Mon Feb 01, 2016 8:31 pm

I've got a 3.4.8 site that has never had any issues, now it isn't loading the page layout correctly when viewing any module in the module manager. Any ideas what would be the cause of this??

That's the only place I've seen it. I'll dig around and see if anything else is broken.

Clear your Joomla and Browser caching + cookies completely, close browser and restart the browser. Check also with another browser. Your template css is not loaded in the module manager and that is normally caused by caching and/or cookies. Also make sure that your session time ins the global configuration is not set higher than "15"

Thanks leolam,

I've changed the session time global config back to "15", it was set to "120", and I've cleared the Joomla Cache, restarted my browser and fired up Safari, on two different computers, and I'm still getting the same result. Very strange, I've built and manage over 100 Joomla sites and never ran into this before.

Will the Global Config change take some time to go into effect since it was set to 120?

Thanks for your help!

Does it only happens in the Module Manager Type "custom Module" " and are all other modules showing properly?

No, it doesn't matter which type of module it is. The result is similar, but with the settings of that particular module type.

I uploaded a new copy of 3.4.8 over my current install, and cleared caches, and that didn't seem to make any difference either.

Do you have any errors in the Developer Console of your Browser?

Well Yes! This error appears in the Developers Console in Chrome, and only on the edit/module view...

Uncaught ReferenceError: writeDynaList is not defined(anonymous function) @ index.php?option=com_modules&view=module&layout=edit&id=150:314

But, I don't know what that means or how to fix it.

So that makes it more precise. Because of the JavaScript Error the whole JavaScript is stopped by Chrome (and any other browser that running in strict mode).

Do you have some special Extensions that change the normal behavior of the module manager?

Can you check if you browser is loading either /media/system/js/core.js or /media/system/js/core-uncompressed.js because there is the function writeDynaList defined that could not be referenced.

How can I tell if these two files are loading? I don't see either listed under the 'Sources' tab of Chrome Developer Tools window, but I'm not sure if that's where they should be if they are loading, or not.

Thanks for your help! I'm hoping to get this resolved as quickly as possible.

Developer Tools are the best choice. If they are not showing up than we know understand the symptom, because they should be there. First can you check if this files exit on your installation. Second go to another page and see if the JS files got loaded there. Third are there any other JS errors if you open up a Module. Last but not least if you have somehow the possibility to check if there are any PHP errors. They sometimes give really good hints.

More clues...

I've attached two screenshots of the scripts that are loading for both Article->Edit view and Module->Edit view. The Article Edit view loads a list of 20 or so .js files, where the Module Edit view head tag only loads two browser plugin scripts.

Yes, That did it! I found a php file referenced in the error log that was missing the closing few lines and once I updated it by copying the file from another site, everything worked perfectly.

Thanks for your help!

Sorry to ask. What file or files are affected? Do you have a copy of them? I only ask because I'd like to be sure that your site was not hacked.
