Upgrading from 3.4.8 to 3.5.1 - get ERROR: Invalid Login

I have seen posts for fixing this on previous versions, but they don't seem to apply to our case. We tried downloading the package from here: https://github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/re ... ackage.zip and installing through the Extensions Manager, but get an error that it can't find the xml setup file.

Any help?

You can't use the extension manager to update to the 3.5.x series as it states in this documentation:

You need to use the Joomla update component, or if "Method A" is not working try Method B or C. This same instruction would apply to any update from now on between 3.5.x series updates (minor or major).

This is for fixing the updating 3.4.x to 3.5.x but I'm not sure sure about your login issue. The normal way is to reset the Super Admin password by this method:
