New installation - 403 error on Admin page

Post by ibeeby » Mon Dec 26, 2022 5:47 pm

Folks,

I apologise in advance if this turns out to be an FAQ but I have looked and looked and cannot find a solution.

I have a hosted server. The primary account is A.org and there are two appended accounts, b.org and c.org. The hosting has a PLESK facility.

a.org has a conventional web site under apache - no CMS, no mess, no fuss.

b.org has a Joomla 3.10 site - not much there but it works.

c.org had a Drupal 8 web site but as Drupal 8 is out of support I thought that I would try Joomla (as Drupal can be tedious when only occasionally updating the site) and installed Joomla 3.10 through PLESK again.

Each of a.org. b.org and c.org have separate directory structures under the main account - so I had thought that they would be separate enough.

Here is where things got problematic. The primary site 'supseuser' is the same as the root user for a.org - so arguably the default is the same for b.org and c.org - that seems to be how PLESK set them up.

From the user interface on b.org I can get to the administration pages etc. However, on c.org I get a 403 error on the administration pages.

To be clear the database names are different between the two joomla instances.

Any thoughts?

Is this a problem caused by PLESK (so would manual installation likely resolve it?) or is this an issue with the way that the hosting is arranged?

Given that a) I am a new user; and b) I don't have admin privileges for the hosting system, any thoughts as to diagnostics?

Thanks in advance...

Ian

Automated joomla installs very often give problems. I would install joomla properly.

What phpversion? J3.10 does not work with php 8.1

Why don't you install Joomla 4?

As mentioned above, download the install package (downloads.joomla.org), then extract the files from the ZIP, upload all the files to an empty folder.

Run the install. Enter the database details and super user account details when prompted. The install should take about 5 minutes.

If you don't actually have admin permissions for the hosting system (I mean, it's *your hosting account* ( ??? )), how are you using Plesk to install things like Drupal or Joomla or to create databases etc? Or do you mean at a higher level "admin" within the operating system?

I have removed the Joomla 3.10.11 installation and commenced a clean install from the ZIP package - I have added a database. Now when I go to the site (http://c.org) I get a 403 error:

Server Error
403
Forbidden

You do not have permission to access this document.

The URL for that page is https://c.org/installation/index.php

There is a Joomla logo - so something at least is working.

Any thoughts?
