There was an error uploading this file to the server
Hello to everyone,
In a new site where i installed Joomla 3.3.1 from the company's administration site (plesk) i get the
"There was an error uploading this file to the server" error
Even though i talked to the company and they increased the upload file size to 64 MB i still get this error along with "Small PHP file upload size" (to 2 MB) and "The PHP temporary directory is not set" errors
The server's PHP version is 5.4.2 (if this has something to do wtih that).
Please help me I cannot install anything, even though when i try to "Intall From Directory" the most of the times fails because it cannot access/create some folders like there are no priviledges!!!
Thanks in advance everyone!

Re: There was an error uploading this file to the server
I've told to my hosting service (because i do not own the server) to set the tmp directory as it is in my joomla configuration. They keep telling my nonsenses that i try to install templates or add ons that are not compatible with joomla 3.3.1 but when i try to install from url everything works fine with them (the same happens when i do that from install from directory), only "upload and install" button returns "There was an error uploading this file to the server". So I have some more questions if someone can help me...
1. I know that all 3.x joomla extensions and templates work with 3.3.1 (my installation), is there even a minor possibility they might not work?! (I know it's a stupid thing to ask, but i want to be very sure from better experts than me in order to answer to my hosting service)
2. All three options to install anything on joomla 3.3.1 (a. Upload & Install, b. Install from Directory and 3.Install from URL) work the same way?! Or i may face any future problems during installation, because when i tried for a couple of times to install extplorer (uploaded and extracted and then -> install from directory) i got no installation errors but when i got to the extension i was getting a 404 error!!!
The same happened when i tried to install languages where the ownership of the folders e.g. it-IT belonged to apache and not to my site.
Sorry if i was very long but i'm very confused and it's the first time in 2 years that i work with joomla that have all those problems together!

Re: There was an error uploading this file to the server
I had the same problem on one of my sites. I tried to search the web but the only solution I've found was to increase upload_max_filesize and elevate folder permissions which I've already done before to no avail
Finally I've found a solution by myself so I post it here.
In my case, the problem was with temporary directory but not the one specified in configuration.php as $tmp_path variable. There is another temporary directory which is used by PHP itself and named upload_tmp_dir. You can see its value in administration backend System->System information->PHP information
In my case, directory listed there didn't exist at all. After I created it with 755 permissions, all problems vanished!
I hope it helps somebody Good luck!
