How to turn off strong password and 2 factor authentication?
Dear All,
When I copied live to test and upgraded my test system to 3.2 just now I said yes to strong passwords and 2 factor authentication. But I have not actually applied 2 factor encryption to any users.
In testing I have encountered a problem with email:
"The mail function has been temporarily disabled on this site, please try again later."
This may be totally unrelated but I would like to turn off the above to eliminate them from the enquiry. Is there any way to do that or would I have to recopy from live? I am having trouble finding the documentation - anyone know where it is?
Regards
Geoff

Mod. Note: Relocated the topic to the Administration J3.x forum. This is not a security issue.

Re: How to turn off strong password and 2 factor authenticat
I said yes to strong encryption and now my site crashes. Apparently it's trying to request too much memory, even though I've cranked max memory up on my server. So, how do I turn this off? I can't find the setting in the docs.

Re: How to turn off strong password and 2 factor authenticat
I copied my live to test again and upgraded to 3.2 and this time did not turn on the above settings.
However in the post install messages it tells us how to turn them off:
You can always disable Two Factor Authentication plugin, or configure it for Backend usage only.
You can edit the User - Joomla plugin and change the strong password setting.
My Two Factor Authentication plugins were already disabled however on my test system I changed the strong password setting to "No".
As I am still getting the email problem it appears to be nothing to do with these settings, so I will look into it further and if necessary make a new post.

Email problem is well documented on here recently. Happens on upgrade to 3.2.0.
1. Go into administrator>Global Configuration>Server tab
2. Click the "Save" button.
All should be okay.

Oh yes thanks I see now others have solved it - I jumped in to 3.2 quite early so was maybe one of the first to hit it. That solution has worked for me too. Now how to mark this post as solved?

Re: How to turn off strong password and 2 factor authenticat
Hello,
I can't login after enable two factor authentication so can't manage from backend.
What will I edit in the configuration.php file to turn this "two factor" off?
Thank you!

Hello hoanta,
Unless someone else reading this knows another way to disable it and if you have not got another userid without the 2 factor authentication then you will need to restore from your last backup.

The reason is not caused by Joomla. Now I can login after sync the time of mobile phone and Google.
Anyway, I disable this 2 factor function to prevent further issue.

Re: How to turn off strong password and 2 factor authenticat
I just turned off two-factor authentication on a Joomla 3.2 site.
Go to Extensions > Plugin Manager
Set the Select Type filter to twofactorauth
You'll see two plugins enabled - Google and Yobikey - change their status to Disabled
A red X icon will show up
The login will now show the regular Joomla username and password only.
I have no idea of what will happen if you've actually configured and used two-factor auth for a user as I had not set any user account for this feature. The site login now works as it always has.

Re: How to turn off strong password and 2 factor authenticat
I am using Joomla 3.3 and the User - Joomla! plugin does not have the Strong Passwords field shown in http://docs.joomla.org/How_to_disable_t ... ds_feature.
Was this removed in 3.3 or do I have to set something else to see it
thanks

Anyone who want to disable two factor authentication. Joomla 3.3
Go to Extentions->Plugin Manager
Search for Two Factor Authentication - YubiKey
and Two Factor Authentication - Google Authenticator
disable them both.
Cheers, DS
