configuration.php permissions reset themselves

Post by artshotwell » Wed Apr 27, 2016 8:26 pm

i've noticed that for at some of my Joomla 3.5.1 Web sites that the configuration.php file permissions gets reset overnight from 444 to 640. I can reset it to 444 and the next day it is again at 640. Any ideas anyone???

In fact, after I reset permissions to 444, they are set minutes later to 640.

How am I resetting? I log into CPanel and reset in CPanel's file manager. I could reset in AdminTools. Is that a better way?

Hi,
Have you checked it is not the server/hosting company doing this for some odd reason?

Host tells me:
I believe what is going on is that those files are required by the actual Joomla! core. When Joomla! goes looking and finds the file set as 444, it changes the permissions to 640 because it is reading AND writing while also allowing the group to read only on these files.
