Links or anything with " adding \"

Postby apa1exakis » Tue Oct 16, 2012 6:28 pm

Anything with a quotation is getting messed up in the editor. I have tried TinyMCE and JoomlaFCK and I get the same problem regardless. Anytime I add a link or if I go into the html mode and add class="" and save the quotations are converted to \" therefore breaking all links and destroying styling.

Is anyone having this issue? Any idea on how to fix it?

It was a magic quotes gpc issue. It wasn't turned off in the root directory htaccess file. Once I turned it off there the problem has disappeared in case anyone else runs into this issue.

[Mod note: Glad you managed to resolve it for yourself. Thank you for providing your solution to this issue for others to see. That particular issue has been raised quite a few times already in the 3.0 Boards. Not everyone seems to be affected by it though.

fixing the issue where adding \" during article posts in administrator panel fix is:

Create a text file
Rename it to 'php.ini'

Add the lines

magic_quotes_gpc = Off
magic_quotes_runtime = Off
magic_quotes_sybase = Off
extension=pdo.so
extension=pdo_mysql.so

Save it to the directory/ies in which your scripts are executing.

so make sure you copy the file to the root directory of your site and the Administrator directory...

Does anyone know if all this is necessary? It would be nice to have this sorted in the latest versions.

It has as of php 5.4 which is why Joomla has been forced to make the change. If your host is still on an older php 5.3 release then you will need to speak to them for the best method of disabling magic quotes. Some methods are documented here http://docs.joomla.org/How_to_turn_off_ ... r_Joomla_3 but YOUR hosts can give you the BEST advice

That did the trick :). I could change the PHP version myself via the hosters 'service center'.
