Can't take all the credits for it. The original solution to the problem was provided by Spirit (Marco Richter) on forum.joomlacommunity.eu
Issue with migrating? Include logs/joomla_update.php in your report!
Blank screen? Verify pagesource for HTML code (javascript error)
Installation failing on populating database? Install with set_time_limit(0)
Document your customizations!

Yes.

I have this error when I try to edit the template settings. Frustrating. So I rebuildt my entire site in Wordpress ... Now Im considering use of WP instead. There are easier to buildt the pages I need, and the look and feel. Joomla templates and content designing in it has become to complex bcof the complex .less / CSS structure. It is VERY cascading...

This worked for me.

My problem was the entry for 'ExtraWatch Update Site'. It had a bunch of spaces in front of the URL. Deleted the entire entry from _update_sites and all is well

Thanks for the posts

I found the update_sites table "CMC Updates" entry had a leading blank in the URL.

Fixing that solved my problem. Thanks to everyone who posted tips and successful resolutions. That led me in the right direction.

For me it was JCE Editor. I reinstalled it, and now the Joomla Updater works fine.

Uninstalling JCE corrected the problem for me as well.

Thanks for this one ... I had that installed and it has the extra space, which was causing the problem - PAINFUL.

Thanks all for inputs :)

sovainfo wrote:Possibly data corruption in #__update_sites. Check location!
As a contribution to this issue.
Open your database and browse through the content of the table "#__update_sites", you will find a field called "location"
Then test all "location" URL's one by one.
Find out which is not giving you a respond or empty page.
Go back to the table and edit the "enabled" field and change its value from "1" to "0".
Save your changes and refresh your Joomla! update page.
Go through the whole entries and one will work. GUARANTEED

Thanks Sovainfo,

You solved another issue for me with your excellent explanation. For me the issue was caused by using the following extension - http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... dges/21710

Once I removed the record in the "#__update_sites" as you mentioned I could update joomla succesfully from the administration.

Thanks again.

JCE editor was the culprit. Wish I went to page 2 before all the trouble shooting I did to fix it.

None of the suggestions have worked. All was fine on my MAMP server and this started when I brought the site live. I've done this so many times without problems. Here's the error from the log:

Hmmm, if I go into extension manager and disable Gantry component, Gantry library, and System-Gantry plug-in then I can at least click on the template and open it though there's not much there.

Hmmm, ok, I backed up the site, moved it back to the MAMP server and it works. It's looking like a server issue or perhaps an OS issue. I generally develop on MAMP 2.1.3 running on a Mac Lion desktop but this one time I was working on MAMP 2.1.4 on a Mac Mountain Lion Macbook. I don't think the MAMP had much to do with it but the OS might.

My next move will be to backup this good install from MAMP and move it back onto the live server.

For me, it's definitely JCE. When I disable it in #_update_sites, updates work fine. Updating JCE (to 2.3.3.2) did not help.

UPDATE: It actually did help, half way! The JCE update added an entry in #_update_sites. I still had to delete the bad old one, and now it's ok.

My problem was related somehow to either the Gantry Framework or a Rockettheme component. I used a plugin downloaded from the RocketTheme site specifically built to fix the issue. It worked.

I had the same problem after upgrading to 3.15 from the previous version on FIVE websites. In my case it appears that the upgrade process didn't complete properly.

I tried what somebody in a previous post said - to install the same version (3.15 in my case) via the Extension Manager but it didn't solve the problem.

My answer (this works for me): I have just uploaded and installed Apps-Joomla_3.2.0.alpha-Alpha-Full_Package.zip via the Extension Manager and it works perfectly now.

It appears that the 3.2.0 alpha that I have just installed simply overwrote some damaged settings that resulted from the previous failed update.

Lastly, to tidy things up again, I have re-installed (downgraded) version 3.15 over 3.20 alpha and it STILL works. The only anomaly was that it then told me the only extension I had installed on this test website was out of date, when in fact it wasn't. I simply re-installed the same version of the extension and it then reported the extension was up to date.

I've no idea why the initial upgrade failed and caused the problem - maybe it failed because it clashed with one of the several extensions I have installed on my problem sites?

Hope this helps somebody.
Thanks,

Andy Wilson

I created an account just to say thanks to the person who figured this out. For me, it was an extension with no name and no location. No wonder joomla was trying to get a response and just couldn't. Anyway, thanks for figuring this out!

I have ExtraWatch installed and got the error from updating, it seems like extrawatch make a new update tab in the database when i update it or reinstalled it, i got 5 diffrent extrawatch update tabs in database, with all removed except the latest, the joomla update & comp updates started to work.

That did not help for me but uninstalling the complete Xmap extension and plugins helped! Since it is uninstalled my updates work fine again.

Hi,

I have the same problem as above : I want to upgrade a website from Joomla 3.1.5 to 3.2, but I have a "0 No HTTP response received" error.

I followed the steps explained above, in order to check in the database, in the "#__update_sites" table and I found out that one component url wasn't working (it was the B2J contact form).
I changed the "enable" field from 1 to 0, but that didn't work.
Then I desactivated the B2J component, but nothing changed...

I don't know how to solve this problem... I am not even sure that the B2J component is the only cause of the problem...

Does anybody have any idea?
Thank you very much for your kind help :)

PS : oh and the template I am using is not from Rocket Themes, I never installed anything from Rocket Theme actually, and I am not using the JCE editor either...
The template I am using was made by myself and I used Bootstrap to do it.
