[Solved, kinda] Copying Article pages between websites?

Post by Vol1 » Tue Feb 04, 2014 4:54 pm

Hi :)
Is there an easy way to export Article pages from one of my websites and import tham into another?

I created a test site as a
http://www.domain/test
but now need to start again (due to a few of my blunders) with a new site
http://www.domain/test1

The good thing was my nicely laid-out html which seems to have been retained. The question is how can i copy them all en-masse?

My hosting service allows me to ssh in so i was able to rsync all the newsletters, logos, posters and photos but i can't seem to find the articles :( Am i just missing somethign obvious here?
Regards from
Tom :)

Glad you found a solution :) Just a side note, the articles (and lots of other information) is stored in your database. It sounds like you copied all the files, but didn't grab the database.

If you look at your Joomla database, you'll see a table called "content" which holds your articles. You can also see other tables too, such as categories and users.
Please let me know if I can help any further.

Hi :)
Ahah, that was going to be my next 2 part question.
1.a) "Is it possible to copy the database, or rename it?"
1.b) how to

I will still post the question but it's good to know 1a=yes so i can skip that half.
Thanks and regards from
Tom :)

Hi Tom,

Yes, it is possible to both copy a database and/or rename it.

On the Copying a Joomla website page, there is a section labeled Copying the database with phpMyAdmin that has the info you're looking for.

You'll want to use a program like phpMyAdmin to work with your databases (the Copying a Joomla website link above has general steps, these links have screenshots that may help understand the import / export process)
Please let me know if I can help any further.
