Hit count on articles

Post by feste » Fri Feb 05, 2016 8:45 am

How does Joomla acquire data for the hits? Does it record every robot or spam-bot or crawler [or whatever!] as a 'hit'?

I manage http://www.lallans.co.uk/ for a charity. They have a catalogue of some 200 CDs which they sell, although it has to be said not in vast numbers! It was with a view of improving sales that I made a note over the last several weeks of hits on certain pages. I chose half a dozen CDs; one seemingly very dull, one I knew to be selling well recently, a couple of 'seasonal' hot sellers, a couple of recent additions, and a couple to which I recently added sample audio tracks.

What struck me as odd was that all seemed to get a roughly the same, consistent number of hits irrespective of what I predicted to myself as being likely popular or unpopular pages, which suggests to me some sort of background traffic which is blurring the issue.

Anyone got any thoughts? Thanks

The Joomla! Article Hits are the counting a of ALL HTTP calls. So there is no different between a call from a Browser a google-bot or a spam-bot.

Hello again sudo-web! Thanks for the reply. Do you happen to know if there is an extension that can separate the wheat [i.e. genuine humans] from the chaff [i.e. robots] ? Thanks

Is it just about the hits or a more precise Tool like ExtraWatch:
