mysql vs percona vs mariadb in joomla 2.5 and joomla 3 x

hello, i want to ask what kind of mysql is better to use for joomla site.
mysql , percona , mariadb ? for faster performance and no issues.

My personal preference is to use MySQLi as that is the only one I have found to be stable and that gets updated regularly. Also, the host I use, (hostgator, BlueHost etc) all provide MySQLi as standard and so life gets a bit easier for me.

You get his question wrong, he means servers not drivers, MySQLi extension is just a driver for php. Percona and MariaDB are drop-in replacements for MySQL (the server, not the php extension).

I never tested Joomla with MariaDB, so I don't even know if it's working with Joomla, Percona I didn't tried yet.
You should ask this question on the mailing lists, there are more devs than here.

My host recently moved to MariaDB. Didn't notice a difference so far.

is anyone use mysql 5.6? is it faster from mysql 5.5?
