Not saving any changes
my instance of joomla 3.4 will not save any changes made whatsoever. Cannot save an article, change global configurations, menus, you name it. I make the change, hit save or save and close, only to find no change has taken place. The site right now is completely useless as I just started it, but can't put anything on it. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Re: Not saving any changes
Have cleared the cache in the back end and also in the browser you are using? That usually helps after upgrades.

You can find the option in System - Clear Cache.

Re: Not saving any changes
It didn't work. It still will not save my changes to anything. There is no error message. It just goes back to the page as it was before I made the change.

Re: Not saving any changes
You can change the error reporting in the Global Configuration from 'System default' to 'Maximum' by editing the file configuration.php. That will allow you to see any PHP errors on the page.
Can you detect any javascript errors on the page or files missed during the page load? Use the Web Developer extension in Chrome or Firefox and then F12 and check what is happening under the Network tab.

Re: Not saving any changes
I tried that, but the problem is that I can't change any settings... and I mean anything. I switch it to maximum, hit save, and it's back to the default. I cannot make ANY changes in joomla.

Re: Not saving any changes
Did you edit the file configuration.php directly - download it using FTP, edit it and upload it to the server.

Re: Not saving any changes
I didn't edit anything. I just installed joomla and this is how it was working from the beginning. In what way am I supposed to edit the php? I am completely new at this. If joomla isn't wokring, then I don't know how to do other things. Thanks for you help!

Re: Not saving any changes
I figured out how to edit the configuration.php and switch the error reporting to maximum. Where will I see the errors as I tried to make changed in joomla and nothing happened again, not even showing errors. Thanks.

Re: Not saving any changes
At the 'Maximum' level PHP errors are displayed on the web page.
Can you detect any javascript errors on the page or files missed during the page load? Use the Web Developer extension in Chrome or Firefox and then press F12 and check what is happening under the Network tab. It will highlight any scripts that fail to download on that page.
When you are logged in to the back end and view the HTML source code of the page (right click anywhere, then select 'View page source' or 'View Source') in the back end, you will see a number of lines starting with "<script src=", each loading a javascript file. All of those need to get loaded into the browser before the save functions work.

This is what I found in the html source code. If it matters I viewed the source from the global configuration page.

Re: Not saving any changes
The list of files loaded for Global Configuration looks normal.
When using F12, make sure you have selected the option 'Preserve log' so that you see the full list of interactions and status when you click the Save button.
Check the Settings and make sure the following is selected for Console:
Log XMLHttpRequests
Preserve log upon navigation
Show timestamps
Check the Console to see if any javascript errors are reported when you click the Save or some other button.

Re: Not saving any changes
I uninstalled and reinstalled joomla (for literally the 4th time) and this time things seem to be working fine. Have created most of the site and everything is saving. Thanks for your help.

Re: Not saving any changes
Hi Guys,
I noticed this too after updating to J3.4. It's a live site. The update was successful. I do have a back up of the site, and entire account, but I'd rather find the answer to this issue first. I've just tried updating to joomla 3.4.1, but still I cannot save ANYTHING. I can go in and change the config file to max...but wanted to know if there was any other info...This is a strange issue indeed. I'm sort of in a freak-out mode. Have not told my client as of yet...
Thanks in advance,

Edit, I am able to login to the front end, open an article and save it...also weblinks...but unfortunately I cannot edit menu or modules from the front end as a super...
Really appreciate any input anyone has...

Re: Not saving any changes
Also,
I've just came across another issue...cannot log into the back end of the site. Super user says: Warning
You do not have access to the Administrator section of this site.
I CAN log into the front end. I'm kind of freaking out...anything you can suggest, I appreciate it.

Re: Not saving any changes
You can still recover your super user access:
https://docs.joomla.org/How_do_you_reco ... assword%3F
Once you gain access, you should go to the Security forum at http://forum.joomla.org/viewforum.php?f=714, read the stickies at the top of the forum and use the Forum Post Assistant (FPA) to post the details of the server and your site so that someone can review the configuration and find any settings that can be improved so that the site becomes more secure. If you lost super user access all of a sudden, the site may have been hacked.
