Converting a Html static site to Joomla 2.5

Post by Milady_ady » Wed Apr 16, 2014 4:13 pm

Hi I am new to web design/development but I am very eager to learn. Right now I need to know how to convert a static HTML site to joomla 2.5. I have no idea what this entails. Do I just need to transfer the files over to the database or do I have to recode the HTML so that it is read by PHP? How do I go about doing this?

Yes, you've to copy the HTML pages into Joomla articles.
See http://docs.joomla.org/Converting_an_ex ... a!_website

However, I would only copy the text, and not the HTML code.
Otherwise the HTML code in the old articles might mess up the HTML of the template and layout of the website.

You should take the existing site and turn the technical implementation into a functional design. That functional design should be turned into a technical design for the cms Joomla. The result would be a list of extensions to be used, menu structure design and category and content structure. The technical design should provide answers to which templates to use, which other extensions: components, modules, plugins. Once the category and content structure is known existing information can be transferred. How much of the HTML site is usabel depends very much on your site.
Issue with migrating? Include logs/joomla_update.php in your report!
Blank screen? Verify pagesource for HTML code (javascript error)
Installation failing on populating database? Install with set_time_limit(0)
Document your customizations!
