error in log is:

In extension manager go to plugins and then filter by the editor-xtd plugins
Almost certainly one of those is breaking the site. Try to disable them one at a time to see which one it is

Code: Select all

return $this->getRenderer($this->layout)->render($this->getLayoutData());
Possibly a Template override causing the problem ?

Thank you for your reply,
I checked all extensions one by one and all together, but no change.
I do use overrides , but not in this case.
I checked if the file was updated but could not tell.

could it be that there is an update missing ?

Is it possible to fix update from 3.4 to 3.5

Post by avico » Fri Apr 01, 2016 7:55 am

I updated via manager from 3.4 to 3.5, Only later did i learn that such un update does not work.
now i have a frontend edit problem.
can i Re-update, I tried to follow instructions from here:
https://docs.joomla.org/J3.x:Upgrading_ ... 4.x_to_3.5
but Joomla csn not find the xml file.

i asked for help on this forum, but was answered only that it is a specific problem which has nothing to do wtih core.
iRealy hope i do not need to proceed on to drastic solutions like Re-installing the whole site for a minor bug.
Any will thank anyone for any help.

I finaly manged the update by copying over updatefiles->site. but there is no help with frontend editing. By now it is clear that it is a template related problem, to do with JA University. Had no luck with JoomlArt support but am still searching. Does anyone know of a way around this problem ?

This problem is related to the JA T3 Framework which is (I assume) the basis of the JA University template from JoomlArt. The current version of this framework is 2.7.2 dated August 2015 and as far as I know it doesn't cover yet the changes made for Joomla 3.5.0.

The missing method JFormFieldMedia::getRenderer() is by default defined in libraries/joomla/form/field.php but this file is superseded by plugins/system/jat3/jat3/core/joomla/form/field.php when using the JA T3 Framework.

You might try to update the latter file by comparing it with the default Joomla file and adding the missing attributes and methods.

You are right but when using T3 framework you have to have the proper update. after proving I paid for it i (which is real weird, having to give proof of purchase in 21st century) got it and all is fine. It is strongly advised to check any self-developed plugins.

This also ties in with a similar topic http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=706&t=919668

The answer is similar: use a template that works or discuss the problem with the developer of the template.

Thanks again to jo-sf and sozzled, I got much more help here then from joomlart support. Our IT dept. decided this year on a "NO MORE HACKS" strategy, which fits in with latest joomla dev. but keeping backwards support is a BIG problem as you said and in future we will no lock ourselvs down with a template .

thanks again for your help
