Archive Articles Not Visible
I have done both of the newest updates and my Archived Articles are still unavailable. I posted about this over 2 weeks ago and again a week ago and have not received any response about the issue.
I have included screen shots to help show what is going on. They are pretty self explanatory. The Archive list is working, but the article page is blank.

Re: Archive Articles Not Visible
Hi there,
You can use a menu item type Archived Articles, find this option when you select the
menu item type in each menu item.
Also you can create a new module called Articles - Archived in:
Extensions > Modules > New
Or you can show your content via extension, find some options in the extensions directory
with the term "archived articles".
Cheers.

So is it no longer working the way it used to before the updates?
It was working just fine before that. My menu item is set up correctly.

Thank you, but I already have it set up as described in the documentation. It was working fine and now it is not.

Re: Archive Articles Not Visible
I tried to use the module instead of the menu type, but the articles do not link to anything. I want to be able to still read the article from the front end even though it is archived.

Re: Archive Articles Not Visible
Sounds like there are no menu items anymore that provide context for you archived articles. Suggest to create them!

The menu item is there and it has been unchanged for the last year.

Obviously that is not the menu item missing! Create a Category Blog for the archived article.

Re: Archive Articles Not Visible
I turned the "No Articles Message" to "Show" and I am getting this message on the frontend:
"There are no articles in this category. If subcategories display on this page, they may contain articles."
But there are most certainly articles within the "Archived Articles" category.

Re: Archive Articles Not Visible
Yes, there are articles, but they are archived. Which is why they don't show up. Now going to the menu item for archived articles (not the improperly named Category blog) and pick an archived article it should appear in the context of the Category Blog instead of Archived Articles.
Considering it is a state of an article, it is not expected to be moved to the Archive category.

Re: Archive Articles Not Visible
I am a bit lost...which one is improperly named?
Neither the Archived Articles menu item type or the Category Blog menu item type give the option to select one single archived article.
I need to show all of the archived articles anyway.

Okay....well I found the issue but I am not sure how this would have anything to do with it.
I changed the Date for Ordering from Created to Published. Now the article content appears when I click the title link.

Re: Archive Articles Not Visible
Are we still addressing the issue that the menu item type archive articles is producing a list of articles, but when clicking the article the content doesn't show?
If so, the category Archived Articles is improperly named! Your articles should have been organized according to the original category structure. Category Blogs should provide context for those categories. When archiving an article it will disappear from the Category Blog and appear on the Archived Articles. Clicking the archived article will present it in the context of the Category Blog.

Re: Archive Articles Not Visible
Well, I just typed a long, detailed reply that took me about 30 minutes that then got deleted when I hit submit and got logged out...so I will try my best to remember what I said for the 2nd time...
Yes, that is still the issue. I have been doing it this same way for 3 years and it has worked perfectly fine and just now it decides not to work anymore? That is what I do not understand.
You keep saying that the Archived Articles category is improperly named. But it shouldn't matter what I name my articles...their names describe what they contain. If a category contains ans article with the status of "Archived", the Archived Articles menu item should show that article no matter what category it is in. It says that it "Displays ALL archived articles".
Also, I am not sure what you mean by "original category structure". The only original category was the "Uncategorised" category. I created all the rest, including "Archived Articles". Normally when I change the status of an article from "Published" to "Archived" it comes from the "Township News" category, which is displayed as a Category Blog on the website.
I do not want my Archived Articles to be displayed as a Category Blog. I just want them to be in a list of linked titles. I tried setting the intro text to not show, but it still shows anyways. And the only way the article appears in the Archived Articles Category Blog is if the status is "Published". But they are not published articles, they are no longer featured and need to be of "Archived" status.
I have tried making different combinations of settings but I am getting confused between the Archived Articles menu item, the Category Blog menu item, and the Archived Articles Category itself when you are explaining what needs to be done.
I really do appreciate your help with this as it is very frustrating for me. It is hard to decipher what you are trying to explain through text though. Maybe explaining a different way if you can, screen shots, documentation, or step by step may help?

Re: Archive Articles Not Visible
Trying to explain how Joomla works, which is different from how you think about. The change was caused by the introduction of seo urls for archived articles.
It seems you fail to understand how to organize your articles properly. Obviously, you need to organize them in different categories. Currently you are moving archived articles to a separate category. That is not what Joomla expects. That also means there is no category structure to present your articles. Resulting in the archived articles to be the only context.

Re: Archive Articles Not Visible
Obviously, it is not obvious to me.
If I have a published article in the News category, but then I want to change the status to archived, how do I go about that?
It is no longer a News article, so I don't want it in the same category as my published News articles. What DOES Joomla expect?
Does my Archived Articles category need a parent to give it "structure"? It currently is a root category because it contains archived articles from my entire website.
I am looking at this: https://docs.joomla.org/Category
But it really does not explain very much. I get how hierarchy works.
By context do you mean content? Context is words that are used with a certain word or phrase and that help to explain its meaning. I feel like that doesn't really fit into what you are trying to explain.

Re: Archive Articles Not Visible
The only thing you need to do is to change the status of the article from published to archived!
Joomla expects it not to change category.
There shouldn't be a Archived Articles category. That is why you have the Archived Articles menu item.
By context I mean context. Resources like articles are presented in a context, when using an URI. Obviously, when click a menu item it functions as a context for the information presented. When clicking an URI, joomla tries to find the appropriate menu item, when not found it uses the default menu item.

Re: Archive Articles Not Visible
Keeping the category the same and not changing it to the archived articles category does bring up the article content, but the URL path does not specify that it is archived.
This is the list of archived articles: http://ytown.org/archived-articles
But then, clicking the 1st article on the list (the only one I have still in the news category at the moment), the URL path is just: http://ytown.org/ytown-news-1/1567-text ... ter-notice
Which is the same as when it was published. Other modules are still visible to the left of the article content, which make it look like an incomplete news article.

Which brings you back to my advice to create a Category Blog for Archived Articles and moving the article to Archived Articles. You can configure the context Archived Articles any way you want. Obviously, you don't include the modules you use for News.

If I go to the "Archived Articles" menu item which is a category blog, what category do I choose then? If there shouldn't be an "Archived Articles" category, how do I display all of the archived articles from the entire site? I can only choose 1 category.

Talking about the category and the Category Blog for that category. It is your desire to have different layouts for News and Archived Articles. Which means you have to create the context for both!
