3.3.6 to 3.5.1 > Update error "invalid login"
I found out elsewhere than when getting the "invalid login" error one needs to manually upgrade via the extension manager.
Can somebody please point me to instructions for how to do this?
I am currently running 3.3.6

Set 'write files' not use ftp ?
Use Akeeba to make an installable back up and install on localhost to update.

Not sure I understand what you mean by "Use Akeeba to make an installable back up and install on localhost to update."
I have the option "write files directly" selected.
What does Akeeba has to do which upgrading the joomla core?
Also, I don't have a local host.

Akeeba creates an installable backup file. You can use that file to install a copy of your site on another server. By creating your site on localhost you avoid any restrictions your Host might impose.cmsdev80 wrote:...

If you don't have localhost you could try overwriting the site files with those from the Joomla full package ... the use the database fix
In any case make a backup first

I see. yes, I always run regular akeeba backups.
Can you please send me a link to instructions for how to overwrite the site files with those from the Joomla full package and then do the database fix?

Re: 3.3.6 to 3.5.1 > Update error "invalid login"
Try method B or C from https://docs.joomla.org/J3.x:Upgrading_ ... 4.x_to_3.5
Suggest you use the Joomla full package not one of the update packages. I just tested on localhost and J3.3.6 that method appears to have worked well. I used the Joomla full package. You could use the 'Update from Joomla! 2.5, 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3 or 3.4' package but using the full package will make doubly sure you have all the files.

Forgot to say that you don't need the /installation folder ... if you uploaded it then Joomla will prompt you to delete it. You will need to delete it.
