Download URL is empty when upgrading to 3.6.0 [solved]
Hi
My joomla 3.5.1 recognizes that 3.6.0 is out and wants to upgrade. When I initiate the upgrade process through the joomla update component it fails with errror message download of update package failed. I also noticed that the URL (see screenshot) is empty and I believe that could be the cause of the download error
any suggestions ?

Re: Download URL is empty when upgrading to 3.6.0
Download the update and put it in the folder designated for Joomla as the tmp folder. See System->System Information->Folder permissions. Scroll to the bottom and verify what the folder is and whether it is writable.
Was the url empty when you pressed Install ? When it was, suggest to Clear cache or use options to switch channel.

Do NOT switch channel ... your are on the 'Default channel' which is the correct one unless you are testing beta versions of Joomla

Re: Download URL is empty when upgrading to 3.6.0
There is nothing against switching channel, both Default and Next will give you the same update. Intended to return back to Default, but no reason for it as long there is no J4 !
The only purpose of switching is to get the url.

Re: Download URL is empty when upgrading to 3.6.0
The URL is empty when you browse to the joomla update component. I uploaded the update file to the tmp directory and also checked the permissions (all writeable) but no luck with the update.
The log is confirming that the URL is missing
2016-08-07T23:59:27+00:00 INFO x.x.x.x update Update started by user Super User (413). Old version is 3.5.1.
2016-08-07T23:59:27+00:00 INFO x.x.x.x update Downloading update file from .
I may have to do it manually.
Does this apply to 3.6.0 as well -> https://docs.joomla.org/J3.x:Upgrading_ ... 4.x_to_3.5
Is there a way to overwrite the URL element manually ?

Re: Download URL is empty when upgrading to 3.6.0
Method #A of that link is what sovainfo described. However if the url for the update is missing then that method probably wont work.
Make a backup
You can download https://github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/re ... ackage.zip unzip and upload ... then use https://gist.github.com/mbabker/d7bfb4e ... 3607f89281

Re: Download URL is empty when upgrading to 3.6.0
used the post manual update script and it worked fine. Did a local dry run first and then was smooth on the live site.
Thanks for the info

well I would love to but I can't edit the first post anymore. I only have two buttons to chose from. The report button and quote button.
I only can edit my last post within a thread
