Multilanguage switcher module error

Post by menschmithut » Mon Sep 01, 2014 11:59 am

I have a problem with a multi-language website on Joomla 3.3.3

The language switcher module does not work correctly. the site is set up in German as main language and English as secondary language. Some of the interlanguage links in menu items are not resolved correctly.

The URL of the site is: http://dehner.net

For example, if you open the page http://dehner.net/en/faq the language switcher module will not point to the correct item in the German version but to a different part of the site. However, and this is the funny part, when you look into the source code of the page at the line 20: " <link href="http://dehner.net/faq-haeufig-gestellte-fragen" rel="alternate" hreflang="de-DE" />" - which is correct.

This shows me that only the language switcher moule has a glitch as the alternate URL is produced correctly by Joomla.

I tried purging all the caches, disabled language switcher module and turned it back on again - to no effect.

Any ideas?

My setup is as follows:

Joomla 3.3.3
JSN Megazine Template
Standard Joomla multilingual feature
sh404SEF (I purged all entries there as well)
htaccess mod rewrite turned on

Mod. Note: Relocated the topic to the Language J3.x forum.

Publish the Language Status Back-end Module. It will tell if anything is not properly set-up.

Is the Default Menu Item for each Language (marked with a flag) correct?

All default menu items published and tagged correctly. I have a menu item for ALL LANGUAGES, one menu for german and one menu for english. Flags are shown as they should.

Language checker module does not show any errors, see attachment.

How does it behave when you turn off SEF?

It shows the language twice sometimes (en/en/something). It can be an issue with sh404SEF.

Yes, it does that sometimes. I get /en/en on the homepage from time to time. Could be some sh404sef issue.

I turned sh404SEF off and on again. Oh wonder, now it seems to work fine. However, now I got this nasty /en/en URL on my english home page item.

a double en/en/ means most of the time that an extension is not compatible.
Test with sh404SEF off and clean all caches

With sh404SEF turned off and all caches cleared the /en/en error does not occur. After re-enabling sh404SEF the error is back again.

Any idea which extensions might be responsible?

I guessed that much. From your last post I thought that a different extension were incompatible with sh404SEF.

I'm going to reach out to Anything Digital for support on sh404SEF. Maybe they have an answer.

Thanks, Jean-Marie, found that advice already. All settings set as required.
