Google URLs mixed in multilingual site

Post by artzubi » Mon Jan 04, 2016 1:52 pm

Hi,

I'm being experimenting a curious phenomenon when Google indexes my multilingual site (four languages: eu, en, es and fr). When searching in Google, it happens that some of the URLs returned are of mixed nature, i.e., parts of the URL correspond to items in one language while others correspond to items in another language. For instance, if you look in Google for 'artzubi' 'photography', you can get these incorrect mixed URLs:

where '85-publicaciones' is Spanish, while the URL should correspond to the English version, i.e., http://www.artzubi.eus/en/publications;

or the same with:

- http://www.artzubi.eus/links/45-argazki ... in-general (note that in this case even the language code is missing from the URL at the Google snippet)

where '45-argazkigintza' is Basque, while the URL should correspond to the English version, i.e., http://www.artzubi.eus/en/links/67-phot ... in-general.

Am I doing something wrong when building the website? I am using Joomla 3.4.7.

Thanks in advance,

Xabier.

OK, I'll do it, but... is there anything wrong or faulty in version 3.4.7 with regard to this topic (multilingual sites)? Moreover, I have created several sitemaps to submit to Google in the last two or three months, and never observed any of these mixed URLs within them, so I can't understand what is happening here :o
Thanks for your reply,
Xabier.

Hi

I have the same problem : Google finds wrong urls with mixed parts from several languages or without the language tag:

for instance Google finds http://www.paris-iea.fr/liste-des-videos where the true url ishttp://www.paris-iea.fr/fr/liste-des-videos

I didn't create a sitemap yet. Can I create ONE sitemap containing the /fr and /en urls ?

Will the sitemap.xml creation and its submission to googlewebmaster tools solve this wrong urls found by google ?

I must add I use J! 3.4.8
thanks

cyril

Hi again

Ok, found: there were wrong direct links on the front page without language tag/prefixs
It confirms Google index only gets links that really exist on the site!

thanks
