Broken internal link for a menu-item

Post by Chaia » Sat Dec 12, 2015 11:58 pm

I will try to describe my roblem, though I find it hard, as I have no idea what is going on.

So, 2 months ago I decided to change my monolanguage site to a multilanguage site.
Everything seems fine in the back end, but in the front end I have one single problem somewhere with the menu/menu-item/category - I have no idea where or what the problem is.
For some reason, one of my Italian pages links back to a Danish (main language) page, and I cannot see where the error is in the backend.

Can someone please advise me on what to do?

The link to the mysterious page is: http://www.sfinksrejser.dk/it/escursion ... culturali/

This happens on more links and is something that is caused not by Joomla but by the Module Gtranslate. You should post your issue in their forums http://gtranslate.net/

Thanks for your reply.

I don't need the GTranslate module for much longer anyway.

Now I tried to disable the module, but I still have the same problem. :(

So I posted my issue on the GTranslate forum, and this is the reply I got:

"Hi,

You are using our GTranslate free module. It does the translations automatically using Javascript. It doesn't interact with the URL structure of your website or anything else. You may uninstall it and see that nothing changes on your site.

We can help you to make your website go multilingual with our Translation Delivery Network solution: http://gtranslate.net/features

Your languages will be available on subdomains, for example http://it.sfinksrejser.dk and it will help your website to be indexed and found in search engines in different languages. Also, you will be able to edit the translations directly on the page without accessing the backend, which will keep you concentrated on the context.

Thanks!"

So I'm back with the same problem as before :(

Now I finally uninstalled the GTranslate modlu, and I still have this problem - this is the page: http://www.sfinksrejser.dk/it/escursion ... ulturali/- if you go to the 2nd page, then the page lnks back to the page - but in Danish - NOT Italian as it should!!!

Compared to the correct one: http://www.sfinksrejser.dk/en/excursion ... a-culture/

I really hope someone can help me with this isue??

Thanks in advance

Broken internal link?

Post by Chaia » Tue Apr 19, 2016 7:29 am

About 6 months ago I decided to change my monolanguage site into a multilanguage site.

Everything seems fine in the back end, but in the front end I have one single problem somewhere with the menu/menu-item/category - I have no idea where or what the problem is.

For some reason, one of my Italian pages links back to a Danish (main language) page, and I cannot see/find where the error is in the backend.

The problem is on this page, and on page 2: http://www.sfinksrejser.dk/it/escursion ... culturali/

Compared to the correct page: http://www.sfinksrejser.dk/en/excursion ... a-culture/

Can someone please advise me on what to do?

I have already posted about this issue before in this thread: http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=706&t=902412 - But noone seems to respond any longer.

Thanks in advance

Hi Chaia,

You question is not clear - maybe that is why you don't get an answer.

Are you sure you have set up your multi-language site correctly? I don't see any language switcher.
For broken links, you can run your website through a broken link checker like brokenlinkcheck (dot) com

Maybe my question is not clear, but that's because I have no idea what the problem is tbh.
The language switcher is only placed on my "home"-tab(s).

http://www.sfinksrejser.dk/it/escursion ... culturali/ works fine here
as well as http://www.sfinksrejser.dk/en/excursion ... a-culture/

The only display difference is that some modules are not displayed on the Italian page.

Thanks guys,

However, all the modules are assigned correctly.

If you go to the Italian page through the link from above, you will see that the Heading is in Danish, while the page is in Italian - In backend EVERYTHING is set as it should.

I really can't explain it any better, since I do not know where to find the problem in order to correct it.

Even my English page is correct.

Check the 'Page Heading' field of the 'Page Display' tab menu item http://www.sfinksrejser.dk/it/escursion ... culturali/ ... If the ' Show Page Heading' is Yes (or Global and Global is Yes) it will display the menu item title when blank and the text if the field has text.

This is correct as well.

Now try and go to page 2 of the same page: http://www.sfinksrejser.dk/it/escursion ... culturali/

There should be 3 tour descriptions with links on this page, but again - somehow it links (or something) to a Danish page - Look at the breadcrumbs at the top.

As I said, everything seems to be correct in the backend - I have checked 100 times :(

Have you created specific template styles for each content language (making sure each of them has a mainmenu specific per language)?

Also, please post here a screenshot of the results of the administrator multilanguage status module

True - But if you look closely (maybe use Google translate) you will see, that the first couple of breadcrumbs are in Danish and the last ones are Italian??
This could indicate that the problem is somewhere within the articles (maybe?), but as far as I can see, everything is put in the correct categories/articles/menus.

NB! The website is offline atm, since I have another problem after I tried to upgrade to 3.5.2 earlier today :(

That would suggest that you have menu item of Danish language pointing to an Article that is set Italian ?

If you want to PM me a SU login then I can take a quick look ?

OK got the email and logged in admin. Went to check the 2 links you provided earlier but they are now 404 ?

-----------------
Addendum
I see you have sh404SEF ... could this be the cause of your initial problem of the Italian page using the Title from the Danish menu item ?

Thanks a lot for taking a look.

I checked last night, and it is definately sh404SEF that causes the problem.

If I disable the addon, there is no problem with the beforementioned pages.

That you get a 404 clicking the link is due to the disabled sh404SEF-module - then the website only works if I enable "Add suffix to URL" in Global config.

Thanks again for your help. :)

Check ... System >>> Clear cache ... and also Components >>> Redirect. Just in case sh404SEF left a footprint.

Finally I got the problem solved, and it was SO easy, when I first got to know how to do it.
It was a problem with duplicate URLs with the sh4004SEF module - just had to redirect to the correct ID. :)

Thanks for your help guys.
