Re: www
Hi,
Important is, that you use only one url www or without. You can set it also in webmaster tool in google.
You can set redirect in .htaccess file. Many hosting providers allow that also in control panel.
You can edit your .htaccess check this http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2347 ... to-non-www
If you do not redirect it, www.example.com is like subdomain of example.com so it can hurt you, but I think search engines are smart enough for that.

Re: www
This is not solution, its just one part, which will tell google, how will display your urls in google's search. It does not fix duplicate content on www and non www urls.sophia wright wrote:Hi,

Redirection is a must
http://www.example.com is different website than example.com , its subdomain and you can have there another website with another content.
Ussualy it show the same content, because if you check your dns settings, there is A record for www which is pointed to the same IP adress as root of your domain. If this is not setted, then www is no existing website.

Re: www
Do not worry about www.
Sir Tim Berners-Lee when he invented the world wide web used it as a connection between computers and servers so linking them at the time.
However, that is no longer required with the Internet moving on.
If you type in a domain without www. or http, into a browser, you will hit the landing page.
Under:in your .htaccess
insert:
This will divert all www. to http-no www.
The search engines will crawl and deliver.

If you have no 'Coeur de Lion' do not ask why you fail.

Re: www
your question was does it hurt? NO.
The quality of your site only depends on the site itself. This means how optimized you pages are. You should only worry about optimization other than how it shows up.

Re: www
You can create an A record for your www by logging in to your registrar's website and putting something like:
www A xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
xxx is your IP address assigned to you by your registrar. It should be the same if you have created a
@ record A xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
All my domains can be accessed either typing example.com or www.example.com
Somebody recently asked why is this not opening: http://www.eventoscuerna.com/ but this is opening: http://eventoscuerna.com/
Now you know the answer.

Re: www
www or non www will not affect your search engine rankings but still if you want to your website to show up in search engines with www then you can redirect it using .htaccess file.
You can also go with some easy options like add your website to GWT and select www version as your preferred version and then Google will show your website results with www.
Hope it will be helpful for you.
