Changes in CSS files and Javascript

Post by Edze » Thu Oct 13, 2022 1:40 pm

Hi guys,

I manage several Joomla websites. The owner of one of them got an offer from someone who told him that she could improve the Google results by removing or changing some CSS and/or Javascript rules, amongst other changes like Alt text for all images. What the heck was she thinking? Was this useful and what happens after a Joomla update?
I suppose that all those changes will be lost...

Kind regards,
Edze de Boer

Alt text for images has a little value for SEO,changes to css are made in a user.css (name depends on template) and these will not be altered during update, changes to javascript, javascript is usually fairly bloated so some improvements could possibly be made. All in all I don't think it will make much difference but it will not hurt to try. There is a world of difference between website performance metrics and real world web searches.
