How to create a membership area? Expert advice is solicited

Post by theachiever » Wed Feb 15, 2023 8:43 am

Dear Friends,

I have been using Joomla 3.x

I want to create a 'Membership' area of selected webpages AND a webpage with Vertical Accordion.

How can I do it?

I am seeking the instructions from someone who either has done it or knows well how to do it.

Requesting your helping hand and guidance,

With thanks,

Rajneesh

A membership area would be relatively simple. Create your content, make the articles "Registered" then anyone logging in as a registered user will see that content. Make the menu items as "registered" too, and link to those articles.

You can also add things like forums, or e-commerce etc, and everything will be linked to that user such as shop purchases, forum posts etc.

But if you want to go further than that consider something like Community Builder. It supports Joomla 3 for the time being but J3 will be EOL by August, so perhaps consider J4 sooner than later.

By vertical accordion do you mean a menu, something like these https://extensions.joomla.org/tags/accordion-menus/, or something like 'accordion sliders' (like these: https://extensions.joomla.org/extension/sliders/ or https://extensions.joomla.org/extension ... d-sliders/) ???

You could also make the menu Module registered as well so that it can only be seen when logged in. Also the Module for the main menu can be made 'Guest' then it will not be seen when logged in.

https://docs.joomla.org/J3.x:Access_Con ... t_Tutorial gives you more information and instruction than can be given in forum posts. Your best options are either read the documentation and experiment until you succeed or post in viewforum.php?f=177

The suggestion to read the Access Control was worth of full reading...

But how to create the User Interface as shown in the graphic is where your advice would be highly appreciated.

Kindly guide further...

With thanks,

Rajneesh

You set the 'Access level' in the menu items modules etc. according to the 'User Group level'

e.g. You have a User Group called 'Cars' and you only want users (that are logged into that User Group) to see the menu/items/modules then:
Set the Module for the menu 'Cars' at 'Access level'.
Set items for that menu to 'Cars' 'Access level'
Similar for any module you only want displayed to User Group Cars
(That is controlling what users see)

e.g. You have a User Group called 'Cars' and you want that they can create/edit own
Given they are a child group of Registered:
In Options (per Category, Component or Globally) 'Allow' 'Create. and 'Edit Own'
(That is controlling what users do)

N.B.
Permissions are inherited downwards

The vertical menu, with collapsible sections, could be done with
https://extensions.joomla.org/extension ... drop-menu/
or further options, https://extensions.joomla.org/extension ... accordion/

As far as styling and colours etc, that would be done with CSS.

If you're creating an online learning site, then maybe consider Joomdle (which integrates with Moodle).
