Removing non-joomla login

Post by Bushbaby77 » Tue Apr 09, 2024 8:47 am

Hi All,

Years ago, I added an extra login, as an extra security feature (this pops up before it takes you to the actual joomla admin login), but I cannot remember how I put it there! I want to remove it but I don't know how to do that. Learnt in the mean-time to always document what you do on your page, but this was done ages ago. It has been bugging me for years, but it never bothered me enough to investigate as I know the password. Stupid thing to do! 🙄 Any guidance hugely appreciated! Thank you!

Look for a .htaccess file in the administrator folder.

If your host has given you cPanel access, browse to the section Files and access Directory Privacy. That sets up password protection for directories like /administrator by configuring the .htaccess and .passwd files.

I had tried the htaccess file before and was dumbfounded why changing it didn't work. (after) writing this post I realised I was looking at the wrong htaccess file all along so I could have saved everyone the hassle! 🙄 Found the correct one and removed the offending bits. (documented that well lol) Thank you both for your help!! Fixed now.

Download Joomla 4.4.3. The file is called htaccess.txt in the main folder. Copy it and rename the file as .htaccess.
